IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN READING THE FANFICTION THIS CHARACTER IS IN, READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK OF SPOILERS FOR DARLING'S STORY!DARLING VS. THE WASTELAND Episode 1 ---> www.deviantart.com/emperorpsyc…
UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 24, 2018
Very slight story change, age, and character sheet update (Personality type changed from Idealist to "The Do-er ESTP"). Also I replaced my mediocre handwriting with text.
This here is my Fallout: New Vegas baby! She's small, looks adorable up close, but deep down, she's a wild laser commando!
Once a member of the passive matriarchal tribe known as the "Ghost Mothers," she was exiled for standing against the Burning Hands tribe and their Great Sun Chiefdom. She now wanders the wastes, trying to make up for past mistakes.
>This is an extensive, but not too detailed backstory. I hope you enjoy!<
Darling was born on July 4, 2265 in Yellowstone, more specifically, on the Elephant Back mountains area north of Yellowstone Lake. Her tribe, the "Ghost Mothers" is a tribe that focused mainly on agriculture and being one with the land and it's spirits. Though her tribe was mainly focused on spiritual and internal focus, Darling struggled to stay in one place for more than a few hours. The moment her parents gave her free reign over the local area, she went exploring.
She discovered many things, but none of them compared to her discovering of a West-Tek Research Facility near the base of the Yellowstone Caldera. The bunker-like structure looked as though it had remained untouched since the Great War or "The Calamity" as her tribe called it. She found things that she couldn't begin to fathom, or explain. She would later find out that the facility was a research base that was looking into harnessing geothermal energy into advanced weaponry. Even more intriguing was a set of vault doors, each with security level higher than the last, that supposedly lead to a highly advanced weapon. This discovery was well... let's just say that it ended up giving her an appreciation for energy based weaponry and jump started her goal in learning the weird "English" language and the even weirder computer speak in the terminal-ma-bob. She would put most of her time and energy into learning as much as she could about termlink and computer science so she could crack the vault doors open. It was a whim turned into a passion as she began to love cracking codes and learning more about the old world in classified files. She also took the time to learn how to fire the laser gizmos. She learned quickly that they weren't good for hunting after she incinerated her target, but she still found an appreciation for their design and function. The Research Facility ended up shaping a majority of her childhood and her beginning teen years.
By the time she was fourteen, she was prodigy. She knew things that could help her tribe become... more, but it was all too late. The Burning Hands and their Great Sun Chiefdom came knocking - seeking to forcefully integrate the Ghost Mothers into their tribal empire. Much to Darlings pleas, the Tribe Mother decided to give in peacefully rather than be wiped out entirely. Outraged, Darling took things into her own hands. She challenged the Chief of the Great Sun, Druid Jackson, a maniac who's origin was shrouded in mystery, but who's blood-lust was feared throughout his own lands. Druid Jackson easily came out as the victor, after which, he detained Darling and had her tortured (explains her right eye) in front of her people and had her parents burned at the stake while she was forced to watch. Later that night, she was scheduled to be transported to the Skin Wolves tribe to be sold off as a slave. Injured and demoralized, she managed to escape her captivity and ran off into the forest, never to be seen from again, until her adventures in the Mojave reached the wrong ears...
After her escape from Druid Jackson, she was pretty beat up, so she slowly made her way to the research facility that she so often called home. She had been securing up quite a stash of energy weapons and energy cells. She took all that her small frame could carry. After saying goodbye to her second home in one week, she made her way south to the city of Crowheart, where the Wind River Free State is. After healing, she eventually traveled even further south-west into modern NCR territory where she took up being a courier. She pushes her life as a Ghost Mother behind her and tries to make up everything that's happened to her by protecting people along the roads whenever they need help. She took on the name "Darling." Mainly, because everyone called her that and she didn't realize what it meant until it was too late. Her real name was lost, forever forgotten. Except to her tribe.
While traveling New California, she attempts to uncover the places mentioned in the West-Tek Research Facility back in Yellowstone. She uses her courier job as a way to gather information about derelict pre-war army bases and facilities.
Her run-in with Benny will start a chain of events that will determine the future of the Mojave.
Intelligent, straight-forward, and highly motivated are often used to describe Darling. Even though she is a techie who lives around terminals and speaks termlink like its a native tongue, she's more of an intuitionist. She follows her own sense of morality rather than cold hard logic for the most part and will dish out wasteland justice whether the law agrees or not (Which gets her in trouble with the NCR). After traveling in NCR territory for a year or so, she realized just how little the politicians care about protecting others that aren't under their banner. Though she still greatly respects the soldiers that risk their lives to protect their citizens, she believes that the NCR leadership holds back what could be a great nation with their in-fighting and corruption. Her and a couple of fellow couriers decided to take things into their own hands, thus the "Courier Alliance!" was formed. The Alliance stood for the protection of all who walk their own roads, whether for trade or for travel. Oh yeah, she hates being underestimated. Too bad for the poor fools who voice their opinions too loudly.

I really love the idea of Darling backpacking around the Mohave with Veronica. Given his age, intelligence, and disposition I can very much see a really fun pseudo-sibling relationship between the two. Also lots of potential piggybacks if Veronica is given power armor.

Well, first off, Darling is a girl. Second, Power Armor piggybacks sound awesome!

Gah, sorry! I know she's a girl, slip of the keyboard. For some reason I was thinking about Boone when I was writing and I ended up using his/him instead

No problem. I made Darling an extreme tomboy in both personality and appearance, so even if it was that, I would completely understand.

For all our sakes never let Darling turn into Tanya. She's terrifying for a reason. I do love a good bit of lore myself so it was a fun read.

Thanks! I was planning on creating my own version of the Yellowstone area in the fallout universe, but I stumbled upon a FANTASTIC fandom page where people have created the "Yellowstone Nations," and I loved every word of it. It's insanely detailed. It talks about the remnants of Vault 119 creating the nations around the Teton Mountains and a whole slew of tribes in the national park area. I added a bit, like the West-tek research facility and a few bits about how the Ghost Mothers were one with the land spirits and stuff. There's even a group of Legion who've basically broken off to start their own army and slave population. It's all glorious, I tell you h'wat!
Also, I really need to check out that anime now!

Tanya the Evil is a glorious anime, it's wild. But yeah good fan lore is great, working on some right now, which even got me aboard the Frontier mod team.

Now this is the best thing to wake up to! I was just about to go to bed for five more minutes but I see this.
I loved reading the backstory and I never really thought of what my characters' would sound like, aside from my own voice whenever I read dialog. Also, is her right eye covered with an eye patch or it's just concealed by her hair?

Thanks! I've been slowly working on her backstory for the past 3 weeks now. Her hair is the only thing concealing her right eye.
Now the only thing left to do is to decide if I actually want to go through with my plan to write stuff based on her. "Darling v.s. the Wasteland."

I find writing harder than drawing in my opinion but I'm behind you on your decision.

Thanks dude! I agree, writing is much harder than drawing. I've always had a problem describing how a character looks in words, that's why I draw them instead.

I always felt super long descriptions of their character was a sign that the author payed more attention to their OC than the actual story they wanted to tell.
