Jav was enjoying his quiet time, wherever he currently was. The stallion blinded from an early age, and well at home in the shelter of caves of Holt. Raised by a few crazy horses, one which claimed it was a kelpie, but Jav had no idea what that meant. They were family, and the cave was home. He’d settled down against something solid and slept, waking not too long after by a scream echoing through the caverns. Perhaps it was a cave lion out to capture a hapless horse, or someone who’d tripped and gotten hurt, but the stallion was wary of strangers, much less those who yelled and made a ruckus. He was startled enough by the sudden awakening, and with a nervous sigh, the stallion stood and went to sneak the opposite direction. He didn’t make it far.
“Hey! Aren’t you going to help me?!” Came a frustrated mare’s voice. There was the hint of iron in the air.
Jav tilted his head where he assumed the voice originated, his bird like mask fully covering his eyes. He thought of fifteen things to say, but nothing came from his lips, aside from a stifled breath which he eventually took.
“I’m talking to you! Help me! Please!- My leg! It’s stuck in a crevice!”
Jav paused, paced a few steps forward, and then groaned, turning about to see if he could even help.
“How am I supposed to help you?” He inclined his head some, waiting for some noises to lead him closer. The groans and struggles of the mare proved easy enough to pinpoint.
“Here! Just- you’re pretty small, you could fit under my forelegs and push up. Should give me enough give to free my leg!”
Jav inched a bit closer, not sure which end he was on, but he’d apparently chosen correctly as the mare craned her neck over his to pull him closer.
“Stop dawdling! Help me out and I’ll show you something neat!”
The stallion groaned but shoved his weight in towards the mare, there was the sound of her hooves scraping, and before either knew it, they’d both collapsed to the ground, following the motion.
“OOf-“ The mare huffed, checking her leg and then looking to the stallion, ‘Just a few scrapes… say…thanks for helping me, but arent’ you a little scared?”
“Of what?”
“…Well, me? Or are my kind common here?”
“Arent you a horse?”
“Well yes..sort of?”
“Are you a kelpie?” He asked, thinking it the same as his adoptive mother. All he knew was that she enjoyed water immensely.
“Oh yes! You’re not afraid though?”
“Noooo….” He trailed, pinning his ears some and furrowing his brows.
“Oh,… well that makes it easy. Come on, follow me!” She hopped up, with a bit of a wince, nudging the stallion.
“There’s a spooky ruin I found not far from here. I bet there’s some interesting stuff to find. Since you seem so fearless you can join me!”
Jav made a non-committed noise, but it was ignored and after a very long and confusing walk somewhere, the mare exclaimed, “We’re here! What do you think?”
“Uh…”
“Right, same. Preeetty cool and mysterious huh? Im going to go look around. See if you find any skeletons!”
“What? Skeletons?” He asked to no one as the mare had snuck off to explore.
With a sigh, the stallion went blindly wandering, occasionally straight into walls and other times tripping on steps. These were not his beloved caves, and how was he going to get back. At one point he thought he stepped in a puddle of water, but was sorely mistaken when he leaned over to drink. Instead it was some thick, gunky goop, that tasted horrible and had him gagging.
“Euuugh. Didn’t know you liked red guts. Blehhh. Thought that was a kelpie thing, not that I eat guts.”
“Get me out of here…” Jav whined, resolved to lick the wall if it got the bad taste of what was ‘guts’ out.
