*Knocks* [Hello security camera. We just moved in across your room...]Weekly Friday submission...disappointing that I cannot submit comics, but for now this will do. :c
This picture was originally something like "Hi I'm going to kill you" but then it's a bit overused and I felt the need to practice backgrounds. Also Kai's not that evil . I've been concerned about my drawings looking too flat, but after getting some coloring advice from my sister, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. No doubt that there are still some color and lighting mistakes and that I need more practice, but it looks less flat.
There is supposed to be some sort of hard light on the ceiling, but I don't think it's indicated well enough. Lighting is difficult. Lastly, I cheated a little by using texture in the background and for the camera effect.
This is when Kai and his mommy finally moved away from his abusive father. Not the best apartment, but happy family!
On a side note, Kai's hair finally makes sense.

Making my shading fit the lighting of the picture. So it looks like the rooms illuminated by a lamp, or overhead lights, or candles, or sunlight

I think the most useful advice I got from someone else that helped me complete this piece is using light reflection. You can always experiment with colors, but if you add proper light reflection (reflection from walls, skin, clothing) then it will look more like an indoor lighting, and give an object a sense of presence in the field of light.
Hmm, I hope that helped. I myself is still practicing with it...

This is pretty ... plastic indeeed. In any case not flat. The colouring and the lighting is pretty well done, and I like that the walls have a texture. I'm really enjoying those Friday-Submissions 
And kai still has that magic impact of being really adorable and creeping me out at the same time. Also a pretty overused device (little girls and blood, blood, blood and stuff) . But it works perfectly here.
