Description
My first cover for Hack/Slash! This is one of the variant covers for issue 9. The characters here are Cassie and Georgia... The two girls are opposites in various ways, hence the design. Cassie also has a bit of an unrequited crush on Georgia.I got to do everything on this piece - design, pencils, traditional inks, and photoshop colors.
I will not be drawing issues 6-9, but I am currently working on issue 10 pencils.

I just recently got into Hack Slash and just finished the 2nd Omnibus. I saw this cover in it and I have to say its one my favorite covers.

Wow, this piece of work is beautifully constructed. At first glance I just had to marvel at the contrast between white and black with the exquisitely positioned girls on the yin yang symbol, but what I find to be the true achievement of this piece of work are the girls themselves.
Here we have two lovely young girls laying on top of each other, each adorned in a tastefully erotic ensemble, however, the soft textures and gentle silence of their slumber moves this away from just being a sexualized piece, but rather something more innocent. I for one appreciate that secondary contrast between innocence and eros, I think it really adds to overall theme of this.
I'm definitely adding this to my faves. And I'm probably going to start reading into this series as well. Congratulations, emstone. You just sold some comics.

I hope you enjoy the series! I find it to be well-written, which makes it fun to draw. There are a number of one-shot issues out there drawn by other artists (collected into the first 2 Hack/Slash trade paperbacks), but I highly recommend all of them. I have drawn issues 1-5 of the new monthly series (of which the first 4 are collected in trade paperback #3), and am currently finishing up drawing the issue 10-12 story arc.
