it's a cute expression of endearment and love between friends/lovers, like calling someone "baby" or "babe" i pronounce it "beebee"
so in this instance kirk wants to protect his love or "bb"

Another idea for Place C:
Get to shuttle pull out Trans warp beaming device and use it to beam to the medic bay on the Enterprise.

Alright we go to plan C.
Take most of the shuttles and refit them to carry really powerful tractor beams. Then put the ship in low orbit and fix a tractor beam on the first shuttle, follow that up by a chain of shuttles down into transporter range for the last shuttle. Then that last shuttle beams them up and you reel in all the shuttles at that point.
