Description
The RX78-2 "gundam" was built in secret on side 7, in the hopes of building a super suit that could turn the tide of war. The earth federation was desperate for anything that could give them the edge withΒ with the principality of Zeon. As fate would have it during the one year war a series of events lead toΒ a teenage boy becoming its pilot. Amuro Ray and his RX78 would become legendary and bring a closure to the conflict(for a time). The rx78 was the pinnacle of mobile suit technology for its time, featuring great mobility, armor and weapon set. It could cut thru enemy zaku's like a hot knife, literary! While Amuro lost his in combat, the series of suit were very successful and enjoyed a long service.many variants were built for different roles and was replaced by the Mk2, zeta and zz gundam.
Here is my finished Bandai RG (real grade) 1/144 Rx78-2 gundam. Built outta the box with detail painting and weathering (overall colors are outta the box plastic and top coat) this kit was really impressive and wildly fun to put toghter. Featuring awesomesauce details, gimmicks and poseably. Its detail beats the snot outta a few of my MG gundams. The build was pretty relaxing for me and while I think I was a bit heavy handed with the weathering, I LOVE the look of this kit and it really shines in my collection.as you might of guess i had too much fun on the photos and it was really hard not to post all 90000000 action shots XD
overall the kit was great but did feature a few shortcomings(hands, fiddley bits,STICKERS, shield pegs etc.) but for the most part everything was excellent and really sold me on getting more RG models in the future(as there might be a freedom gundam in the stash now too)
As always questions, comments and suggestions welcome.

thank you, i was pretty happy with this one as its a smaller scale and pretty complex. ohhhh yea it really does remind me of Gen 1 transformers and screams classic mecha. the weathering was fun to do and pretty easy to accomplish on this guys plastic.

ahhhhh awesome dude, i picked up a couple more for myself as well. been having a blast with them as i have been super busy/stressed lately and they let me have some creative fun but let me turn my brain off for awhile. think you and your grandfather will be impressed by the engineering behind them and how cool they are to build/play with.

I remember watching this and dragonball z back when toonami was a daily thing on cartoon network when i was about 8 good times i remember when i visited with grandparents my grandma saying you kids shouldn't be watching such violent tv shows then she would change the channel to Tom and Jerry ha. I really haven't kept up with the series since then and am confused is the tv show just called gundam or something else

i remember toonami back in the day and have pretty found memory's of the shows it played. there was even an anime block on the sci-fi channel years before that and where i saw akira when i was little(blew my child mind) hahah yea loads of classic cartoons are just are violent!
this gundam is from the original show that started it all, "Mobile suit gundam" but they have been making them since 1979, so there have been loads of different runs and timelines. if i remember right, toonami played "gundam wing" which is set in an entirely different universe than this suit. honestly while i know a bit about gundam shows and loreΒ but i have not watched them all and am not as knowledgeable about there lore/timelines ect as i am with star wars or trek ect. anywho its a classic show series that influenced soooo much and the models are hella awesome, so that's why i am always interested in them. that and you really cant deny the awesome of giant meha desamating each other XD

i may not have seen mobile suit gundam on toonami but i know ive seen it somewhere else cause im thinking back and it may have been on boomerang or some where cause i specifically remember this suit and near seizures when watching it and then transformers or dragon ball z came on after but hey i miss the old toonami there is a slight resurgence of anime but not much these days i miss all the hand drawn anime of the past it had more sould and felt more badass than the computer generated stuff now

i am sure you would have fun, you should give one a shot. these RG models are on the cheeper side as well, so trying one would not kill your wallet like some models.

Β Β The first real made mech.Β No more 200 feet tall mech.Β The creator decided to make it more believable.Β He tried to introduce Newtonian physics on all of his creation.Β And he made the world ready for mechs like Patlabor and Robotech.Β So it is great to see the original.

Its going pretty well, I actually had a lot of time this week to work on it, with summer starting I'll have more time off from my day job to work on it. It took me a couple weeks just to figure it all out, test fit everything, get parts prepped up for paint, that and sort of thing. I haven't even started on the stowage and figures yet, but I'll get there. There are a couple parts that I'm not quite sure where they are meant to go, just small parts really for the interior of the cab, I'll take a picture of them and send it to you. I'm not going to add too much more detail to it as it is loaded down with detail already, just some small things, I do plan on really detailing out the engine compartment.Β

yea sure send me any photos you want i am excited to see what its looking like.

Great job as always, nice detail, When I paint my gundams [They're usually for my friends anime shop I like to do them in darker military like colors, i don't know I just always thought a giant battle robot shouldn't be brightly colored] I do love making these things though they are awesome
KEEP ON CREATING

thanks a tonnage friend!
i usually go for the military colors myself(on my MG's), but this RG is pretty tiny, so i went with a outta the box build. i agree these models are freaking awesome and some of the most fun any scale model can provide.

My friend gave me a scorpion one I haven't started yet it is missing some pieces and no instructions, and unlike car or truck models which most of us can do w/out looking at instructions the gundams [especially the big kits] are a pain in the ass.
Hence the reason i love them I love a challenge.

yea i had kinda forgot! yea you can find the instructions pretty easy to most gundams/models now thanks to the internet. one of the sites i use to look up gundam/bandai kits, has scans of all the instructions if you ever need them: dalong.net/ Β its inΒ korean but its easy to figure out.

Sometimes I wonder if you have a black project image capture pistol that can turn any 2D artwork into 3D tug under the shirt. LOL (I am speaking with a very complimentary tone). Damn fine work my friend. Not only two thumbs up from me, but Amuro's spirit also gave his two toes up. Char might do the same, but that depends on his mood.
