Description
The RX78-2 "gundam" was built in secret on side 7, in the hopes of building a super suit that could turn the tide of war. The earth federation was desperate for anything that could give them the edge withΒ with the principality of Zeon. As fate would have it during the one year war a series of events lead toΒ a teenage boy becoming its pilot. Amuro Ray and his RX78 would become legendary and bring a closure to the conflict(for a time). The rx78 was the pinnacle of mobile suit technology for its time, featuring great mobility, armor and weapon set. It could cut thru enemy zaku's like a hot knife, literary! While Amuro lost his in combat, the series of suit were very successful and enjoyed a long service.many variants were built for different roles and was replaced by the Mk2, zeta and zz gundam.
Here is my finished Bandai RG (real grade) 1/144 Rx78-2 gundam. Built outta the box with detail painting and weathering (overall colors are outta the box plastic and top coat) this kit was really impressive and wildly fun to put toghter. Featuring awesomesauce details, gimmicks and poseably. Its detail beats the snot outta a few of my MG gundams. The build was pretty relaxing for me and while I think I was a bit heavy handed with the weathering, I LOVE the look of this kit and it really shines in my collection.as you might of guess i had too much fun on the photos and it was really hard not to post all 90000000 action shots XD
overall the kit was great but did feature a few shortcomings(hands, fiddley bits,STICKERS, shield pegs etc.) but for the most part everything was excellent and really sold me on getting more RG models in the future(as there might be a freedom gundam in the stash now too)
As always questions, comments and suggestions welcome.

thanks friend! the poseablility is the big thing that draws me to these models. the engineering alone is a treat and provide really aweosme builds. plus you get to play with them when you are done.

Yes, that's what I like so much in kits too, the more moveable parts I have on my tanks the happier I am.
And differently from dioramas they don't just sit there and catch dust but you can do something new with them each time you take them up.
No offence to your dioramas there, they are great to look at but I hope you get what I mean.

yea the more of the little gimmicks and i am sold.
yea i know exactly what you mean, as allot of my dioramas are either packed up or already broke down for parts. but with these kinda kits, when i clean out my display, i always get a fun afternoon of posing.

Nice one! Love the battle damage: it looks like it's been in a turkey shoot And kudos for the paintwork on the little feller.Β
And yea, wish Bandai would offer both stickers and decals with their Gundam kits.Β

Thanks friend, i have a stock MG 78, so i knew i wanted this one a bit more battle hardened.
yea the stickers is something that really bothers me, as i think it would of looked 3x better with some markings. but the stickers would look pretty bad on this scale imo(i even spent a eveningΒ trying to find a way to use them, to no avail) on top of all that the proper waterslides cost a bit and would take weeks and weeks of internationalΒ shipping for me to get my hands on them. anywho i really hate they don't offer both, like they do with their star wars kits.

yeah its fun so far this along with the fenice I've ordered in MG will be used more to build up anticipation for the gundam MKII from build fighters, the geara doga, the two Nu gundam's and the still ordered jesta (which is taking a long time to get back in stock) and the hyaku shiki v2.0

ahhh very cool dude. ohhh all those sound like really nice projects too! i have a MG Nu ver.ka in my stash, looks like it will be incredible. i love the look of the Nu, so freaking badass. i have built up the MG jesta, that was a really awesome model, one of my personal favorite kits.Β

thank you very much. the model only took me a couple of days to build and the weathering and detailing was where most of my time was spent. was kinda uncertain about it, as its such a smaller scale than i am use to, but overall i am happy i went for it.

complaining about some Giant Gundam with X-ray vision leering at them. XD

XD....cows?
I have a question for ya, maybe you can answer it..... do they have any weapon kits for the Master Grade Gundam kits ?
I've been scouring the web for them.... nada.

hahahah sure you wouldn't.
at one point Vermont had more cows than people.
i have seen some on ebay before, but not sure if they were even legit. finding add ons for 1/100 can be pretty tricky as i only really see that kinda stuff for 1/144

wow, I didn't know that....you learn something new everyday...
wanna hear something funny ? My niece calls you Bill Nye. She watches his show on saturday...
she likes science, and math........
I saw a few things on Gundamplanet that could work on a Master Grade gundam kit...

They used this RG kit as the basis for the MG 3.0 RX-78. The 3.0 also comes with those great "emotion manipulator" hands.

enc86 In reply to SlaterWheeler [2015-05-10 13:09:01 +0000 UTC]
yea i know they did and will be getting the 3.0 at some point as well. i love the proportions on this RG(over my 2.0) so at some point when the price is right, ill give the same treatment to the 3.0
