Description
Leave it to Japan to not only be the first to come up with giant humanoid mechs, but dino mechs. I would of liked to be in the room when the engineers decided it would be a wise tactical decision to draw up the plans for a giant mechanized death dino robot. Armed with a sniper pule cannon, bean gatling guns and more missiles than you would need. A radome provides battlefield date and advanced targeting. This is one mecha dinosaur that's not going extinct without a fight.
This is my finished HMM 1/72 Zoids: Gun Sniper Naomi Custom with Wild Wiesel Unit by Kotobukiya (now that is a mouthful lol) painted in the scheme of "let’s use up paint I have on hand". Painted with Tamiya spray cans, hand painted with model master enamels and weathered with artist acrylics. This kit only came with stickers so the decals are from my hoard. Mostly 1/35 JGSDF and 1/48 mig markings (I think) overall I am pretty dang happy with the model and outcome. Lots of cool parts, poseability and overall badass design to him. I did have a few nitpicks with the model kit itself(figurine, stickers,$$$,plastic nub placement) also this guy came with many more guns(to the point I was worried he would look a little to ridiculous, even for me) and a couple of said guns were bent on the runner. So I thought I would not waste time fixing those parts, and just leave them off. I’ll just save his extra weapons, because you know at some point ill have much more fun slapping them on a tank.
At the end of the day I am happy I tried something new, picked this guy up and gave it a go. If I see one of the bigger zoids on sale someday, ill would defiantly get another one.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans!
As always questions, comments and suggestions welcome.

I remember buying these sets when I was little, watched the show too. I really like the desert-camo scheme you managed.

ahhh very cool! these newer zoid models are really good. i have heard so so things about the older models(people love them,so they gotta be good tho) but these releases are very detailed and highly posable. only real downside is the crazy asking price.
thanks a ton! yea i usually go with a more military/"realistic" color scheme on my mecha. pretty good for for what i had laying around and very little planing.

Still looks amazing. And the old sets (the ones I got at least) were basically windup toys you glued together and walked on their own with a few cranks.

lol yea, when i first joined i would actually post like 6-8 photos of a model(cleaned my gallery up since i changed over)
figured this was the best of all worlds, one for anyone that just want one badass photo or they can view a more detailed overview. seems i get more overall page views and comments that way too.
lazy people are people too XD

I have a whole bunch of the older Zoids kits and I think it is time to try the "Grown Up" ones now, haha. Numerous parts aren't a bother, it just shows how great of a kit it will be.

ahhh wicked nice. think my dad had one back in the day.something about the little bits that go on the joints that looks incredibly familiar.
yea i was kinda surprised, its a smaller model(think the wolf is too) comes in a smallish box, but really jam packed with alot of stuff. to me they look like quality models(maybe not as good as bandai) and are a bit on the $$ side(and no waterslide decals). tho in the end you get a really crazy awesome looking mech and that's what really matters.
plus this kit was modeled in lots of different plastic colors, so even just some detail painting would make it look great.

You're dad had the older Zoids kits? Thanks for making me feel old, haha
How small is the kit? Would you say it is about the size of the Hasbro Gun Sniper? Are the Bandai kits the same has the Hasbro ones? It does look like a quality kit, but than again you can make any kit look like a quality kit. I used to the Zoids New Century and I cannot remember the Zoids having any kind of warning markings or such.
Well that is good. I like when models are molded in different colors.

i think so...i really am trying to remember. after some quick google, they started coming out in the ealy 80's. i was born in 85..so lets say something form 89-90. lol having a blast trying to figure out what it was....
think you might know about them then me Lol.
bandai makes the gundam model, they do not make zoids(that i am aware of) but i have build a few gundams and i feel its a good comparison. not sure about the other brands, tho i would be willing to bet, this line is far more detailed than the other lines/manufacturers. ie thsi one would be from who made mine www.amazon.com/ZOIDS-RZ-046-Sh…
this kit was quality. me comparing it to the other brand is like comparing to the gold standard . this kit was of very nice quality and most of my gripes against it are nitpicky at best. it fit toghter without much need for glue(even with a few coats of paint, i dint have a any problems with fit) think all round if you want a detailed zoid, it would be the way to go.

Well I'll be damned, I had no idea Zoids was that old. I remember collecting my kits in 2004-2005.
I don't know that much, in fact I forgot a lot about those kits. You are right, it wasn't Bandai, it was Tomy, thank you Google, haha. Hasbro and Tomy made the USA and Japan Zoids kits, respectively.
YES! That is the new Shadow Fox kit I want! Oh she is a beauty.
I have no doubt that this was quality kit. It looked like it was when I saw pictures of the parts still on the trees. That is good to know about the parts fitting, that is always a sore spot, parts not fitting and needing adjustments. I think the Shadow Fox will be my first step into these new Zoids kits.

yea they date back there. ahhhhh nostalgia
ahhhh ok! yea these are all kinda new to me. other than my knowledge of the gundams and this would be a similar build, i went into it pretty blind. just wanted something different, good quality and cool. he fit all the bills.
yea i was surprised how well the kit clicked toghter and how everything was super tight. never felt like i was going to break him either and i played with a bit the entire build. which i give high marks for as he is on the smaller side.
you should, i bet you would have fun. with your construction skills it really should not present any real problems for you.

Wow.
Your knowledge of Gundams was a great starting point since the Zoids are similar. Also, jumping in blindly is a good way to get a feel for a kit, haha.
That is good to know since I have several mischievous pets, who would end up knocking it over eventually.

yea i didn't what to know too much about them, not get caught up in some hype or something. defiantly was a breeze if you are use to gundam and smaller parts.
i know all about the mischievous pets! so far the zoid has survived(helps he is in my case, as i love it this zoid so much)

I usually don't get caught up in hypes either, they usually don't last that long.
I learned the hard way to use shelves and cases for my models. My new railroad layout now has plexiglass surrounding it to keep my cat off it.

yea, the metal gear games are some of the best ever made IMO so its no wonder why. yea i think rex, one of the tiger zoids and some sort of armored core(or something other than gundam) are up there on my next mech model buys. it will really depend on what sales look like. i would hope for some sort of cyber Monday deal, but i am not holding my breath on a good sale for scale models.

all great tank/project choices. i still really need a bulldog to round out my Japaneses armor collection.
hummm is that even real or just for WOT( Russian tanks are probably the ones i am least knowledgeable about. ) either way, it would be sweet. should be a way to kitbash to make that.

yuppp! really i think Wot has really helped the scale modeling community. i know tons of people that have got/inspired to get into scale modeling because of it. and honestly most tanks have been done to death by this point. i mean there is always room to improve a tiger model, but its awesome to see sooo much crazy stuff coming out for 1/35. saw masterbox is releasing a post apocalyptic zombie line in 1/35 the other day.

wow nice for me it was girls und panzer that got me into scale modeling and wot to be honest, thanks to wot it's helped bring up more of these more obscured prototypes and paper tanks to the scale modeling world. I agree with you that it's helped scale modeling and same with Gundam, zoids, macross, armore core, and so on to an extent.

even just a few years ago, when i got into scale modeling as an adult, i wondered if the hobby would die out(well not completely but become really obscure) but it seems like alot of these factor in the last few years have really helped.
