Description
Leave it to Japan to not only be the first to come up with giant humanoid mech, but dino mechs. I would of liked to be in the room when the engineers decided it would be a wise tactical decision to draw up the plans for a giant mechanized death dino robot. Armed with a sniper pule cannon, bean gatling guns and more missiles than you would need. A radome provides battlefield date and advanced targeting. This is one mecha dinosaur that's not going extinct without a fight.
This is my finished HMM 1/72 Zoids: Gun Sniper Naomi Custom with Wild Wiesel Unit by Kotobukiya (now that is a mouthful lol) painted in the scheme of "let’s use up paint I have on hand". Painted with Tamiya spray cans, hand painted with model master enamels and weathered with artist acrylics. This kit only came with stickers so the decals are from my hoard. Mostly 1/35 JGSDF and 1/48 mig markings (I think) overall I am pretty dang happy with the model and outcome. Lots of cool parts, poseability and overall badass design to him. I did have a few nitpicks with the model kit itself(figurine, stickers,$$$,plastic nub placement) also this guy came with many more guns(to the point I was worried he would look a little to ridiculous, even for me) and a couple of said guns were bent on the runner. So I thought I would not waste time fixing those parts, and just leave them off. I’ll just save his extra weapons, because you know at some point ill have much more fun slapping them on a tank.
At the end of the day I am happy I tried something new, picked this guy up and gave it a go. If I see one of the bigger zoids on sale someday, ill would defiantly get another one.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans!
As always questions, comments and suggestions welcome.

I can imagine that Just having a guiding vision that will direct towards what you want sounds like a good way to go. Need to keep those things in mind when I start painting.
Thanks! I sure hope so! I'm more used to painting with a brush, since I did some kits as a kid but mostly 'cause I used to paint Warhammers. But I think that I can just get int with a brush if I don't get the kind of results with the airbrush on some spots. Also I've watched some videos where Frank Ippolito paints some bigger pieces with an airbrush, and I'm sure there are a ton of tutorials out there. I think the biggest challenge will be the size of the project. I'm used to paint small objects and small details, so going big will have it's differences.

well i think it technically does have some sort of booster/jetpack thing going on. if you look at his "backpack" there are couple of thrusters on there.

zoid was my first model; it was a wind up kit and posesability is 0. the next one is battery powered and possibility is still 0 (but it runs tho ))
again great paint work S. just a heads up, all tomica zoid kits are sticker

ahhh very very cool. yea i am pretty sure my dad had one of the ones from the 80's when i was really young. don't remember it being powered or moving. bet those could be fun to work on.
thanks mans, was a pretty simple but fun build.
good to know, if i build a bigger one, ill want to get decals just for it then. big pet peeve of mine is the stickers. i know, know, but i still hate they cant throw in a simple set of watersides. even the worst military model has watersides.

well tomica Zoid and bandai kits are "easy assemble" because their merchandises mostly aim at young (japanese) audience, rub on decal are pretty easy to do for most kids so thats why we see come kit has both. E.G the MG jesta.
but bandai does offer water slide decal for modeler like us, but the range is very selective and particular. i really wish they could produced the general marking for each factions (in gundam of course)
and i have to say worst mil kit has PRETTY DANG good decal quality (old trumpeter kit). my worst nightmare is academy decal, they just dont bite. and recently i was really mad that (some pieces of) Tamiya aircraft decal perform just as poor as the Academy armor kit decal. after all the step of micro set and micro sol and tons of contton bud, it seems that they can be easily peel off just by looking at it (although physically they are stuck dead)

yea that's what i thought the reason was, and it apparently is. as i said, its just a personal pet peeve. i like to load up these kinda things with decals.
yea i know i have bought a few bandai waterside sheets. but sometimes they are very expensive and will take forever to get here. you have a great idea that i would love to see implemented.
yea trumpeter and even ancient tamiya armor decals have worked great for me in the past.
hate with a passion some of the academy decals i have used, before i learned not to use them. not only do they have no bite, but the ones i have used have been THICK. even after tons of set and sol and flat coats, you can still see the decals edge. that's the kinda stuff that drives me mad.

thanks dude!
yea i want to see yours done too! as yours is a bit different model and are doing it in a different style. honestly this kit probably would of taken 2x as long had i done all the guns(yours has even more XD) but i would rather strap some of those guns to a killerdozer or something cause i am crazy like that.
i hope you get some free time dude, and have a relaxing holiday season.

yeah were looking at 3 feet on the way, so its gonna shut down a lot because were never prepared for it. And after I get the place looking nice for the festivities i got the rest of the day to fire up the plamo factory. going to try to throw together a quick air brush booth.

i gotta strap on an apron and get to cooking! hopefully this weekend ill have time to plot my next build...
awesome dude, you gotta show me what you come up with, that way i can get mine done as well. good luck, have fun and cant wait to see what you accomplish.

Well you may think Zoids is a Japanese creation, but in fact, Zoids is actually an American creation. It just was not popular in the US back in the 80's, but was in japan. So the rights got scooped by a Japanese company that was licensed to sell the product over there.
I've never been a fan of the gun sniper, but I do like the colors you used. That more military look is great.

lol i never would of guessed! well in my alternative universe, they were in real life built by them, thus all the Japaneses markings. or at least that's my story and i am sticking with it. XD
yea he was not my first choice. i wanted one(or two or three) of the tigers or other dinos, but they are a bit $$$. with this being my first one, cost was a factor.wanted to see what it would be like(want to a bigger one up proper) and see if they would be worth the cash. still undecided if they are worth the extra cash part, but they are sooo damn coo. probably need to buy one more to be able to tell XD

Yeah the biggest issue is price. Lots of sites charge way to much for product, thats why I've pretty much jsut glued myself to HLJ for kits like that.

yea i hate the shipping speed, i want it NOW lol. that and their site and my bank hate each other. i got this kit for well under list(around 47,free shipping) and still i find it a bit $$ for such a tiny(but incredibly cool and detailed) model.

You put your [right leg] in,
You put your [right leg] out;
You put your [right leg] in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about!
