I like to think that the Deathclaws we see in the Capital Wasteland and Mojave are a sub-species.
Like, the Commonwealth variety of Deathclaw is bulkier while the Mojave varient is sleaker, faster, etc?
Rather than just be a retconning of the old designs altogether, especially considering how different the Alpha's look.
