Description
lolEmpoleon He reached level 100 this morning after going a total of... six? times through the league. D: .. He was so easy to train. This pic is in addition to the Arctic Pokeresearch one I have going on.
Therefore I must write a little report on it to compliment the main image. What is written refers to my view on its semi-realism, and isn't really connected to its anime appearance or Pokedex references, but rather to its real-life counterpart.
Empoleon
Empoleon is a large imposing figure of a Pokemon, often seen congregating in large flocks on pack-ice in frigid terrains. They often huddle together for warmth when not out feeding in the icy waters.
Its bodily structure is bulky and compact, a thick muscular body layered with fat beneath the skin and covered in tiny, black feathers. These feathers are oily and water-repellent, and also very close together to trap body heat.
The three long golden feathers protruding over its cheeks and brow are quite solid, but can be moved at their base. The fibres at their tips are sensitive nerve-bundles and can pick up vibrations through water for possible prey or lurking predators. They can also be used to detect the weather, and so this Pokemon predicts when blizzards are to strike and thus group together with rapidity.
The solid protrusions on its shoulders and down its chest are cartilage extrusions. The triangular cartilage points cresting its shoulders are surrounded at their base by thick layers of muscle, enabling it to close these triangles over the sides of its head to make it streamlined, or extending them sideways in a display of open aggression.
Its broad, powerful flippers serve in propelling it swiftly and easily through the water. They are ridged with extra-hard cartilage, which is used to punch breathing-holes in thick ice with their tapering points. The thick spikes on either sides of the flippers is often used to ward off an attacking predator with a potentially fatal swift forward- or back-swinging blow. However territorial an Empoleon may be feeling, however, these spikes are never used on another member of its species.
Its diet consists almost entirely on fish. It uses its superb underwater eyesight - its eyes are protected by the nictitating membrane or third eyelid that closes over its eyes upon immersion - and the feathers on its head. It is capable of performing incredible aquatic feats, turning rapidly in pursuit of elusive food.
~ Argh. I ran out of ideas
Further reports to be made are Glaceon, Spheal, and Sealeo.

You did a fantastic job on making a semi-real empolean. I love so many of the details but I would have to say the beak is what stands out most for me.

Your version of Empoleon is awesome. It nice to see feathers on his head here instead of a big metal fork thing.

Wow!!! @_@ Talk about realism, nice touch for the realistic counterpart! I really like how Emploleon came out in this, love the realistic look on the feathers and the iniside of his right wing! Oh and congrats on reaching lvl 100! ^-^ Too bad that America *or at least where we live* doesn't get the anime series anymore ... it stopped in the middle or so of season 4 and I have never seen it since ...

I did a realistic rendition of an empoleon once, but I never thought to make the crest feathers instead, seeing as one is connected to the beak. Neat description. I like how the beak is shaded.

Heh heh, I tend to let the description run of its own accord, based on what I know about the animal it's after... Which is usually a fair bit~

Endivinity In reply to The-Duct-Tape [2009-01-08 19:44:45 +0000 UTC]
I DO NOT FORGET THAT EMPOLEON IS ALSO A STEEL TYPE. >:C
How many penguins do you see wandering around with steel plating all over them? It's not streamlined, they'd sink as soon as they got in the water, and they'd hardly be able to move. I changed all the steel parts on the anime Enpoleon to the cartilage as said in the description.
I try to fit in all the aspects of a Pokemon into views of it as a real-life animal, remember, so things are bound to be different~
