Description First there was One. There was nothing to go to, no one to talk to and after eons One split in Two. One half was content and happy, but the other spoke:

"Give me a name."

Confused, because it did not understand what his other half wanted, it said nothing. This made the one who had spoken very sad.

"If you can't give me a name, then I will create those who can."

With that, the very first dragons were born and their creator asked again. The dragons spoke:

"You are the White Mother."

The White Mother was content and watched over her creation. This drew the attention of the Other Half. It watched the mother and finally said:

"Give me a name, too. We were One, if you have a name, then I need one, too."

But the Mother shook her head and answered:

"I can not give you a name, it is not in my power." And with that she turned away.

Angered the Other approached the Children:

"Give me a name!"

The children were very frightend and fled to their Mother. The White Mother saw the anger of the Other and comforted her children.

"I will create a world where my children can live in peace, a world where they will be free and where they will teach others to live in peace."

And so she created the world. Her breath became the wind, her eyes the stars, moon and sun. A swish from her tail was thunder and lightning. Her body became the mountains and all the earth, her blood all the water. Her claws and her teeth became all the different creatures that would live on the land and sea and her scales were to be flowers.

All her creations were welcome to live there in peace and harmony, but the Other was shut out. In a violent rage it threw itself upon the land and screamed:

"Why do you leave me alone? Why did you not give me a name so we could be together again?"

The land repelled the Other and with screams and howls it fled. Lonely, hurt and filled with a murderous rage it growled:

"I will create others in my image and ask them to give me a name!"

And so it created all things dark, the terrors, the hate and it asked them for a name. With their dark voices they whispered:

"You are the Dark Father."

Finally the Other had a name, but it was not enough. The Black Father wanted to make the White Mother feel what he had felt, when she tore away from him. In the night, he send out his faithful creations and under the cover of the darkness, these creatures entered the hearts and souls of the humans who were sleeping in their houses.

When the sun rose, the dragons found out that mankind had been tainted. All the clans were sad and ashamed that they had failed the White Mother, who had told them to watch over all her creations.

The First Counsil was held and all dragons agreed, that they would teach and watch over mankind from here on, so that the seed the Black father had planted would not come to fruit.

The Black Father never came back and all of the White Mothers creation lived peacefully in the world she had created.

**************

This is the story of the creation of the world in "Dragonbones". Something, that is told the children, but it doesn't play that much of role in the monks live.

Painting took way too long x_x. Acrylic paint, gouache, colored pencil, a bit colored tinted in Photoshop.

(and please all you politcally correct people: I'm not referring to Apartheid with Black Father and White Mother, k? It's just something I think befits the naive tone that most of the creation-tales should have.)

You have very good anatomy and detail, but the image lacks a gestalt and the separate parts of it aren't emphasized enough to give a sense of space or a solid figure. By that I mean, I see masses of claws, wings, mouths.. instead of that awesome dragon creature. I see lumps of hills and underground instead of perceiving it as a field. Flatest, most visually confusing image I've seen in a while..

Well, its a common trend among artists to severely criticize their own work, but if you say so.

Juppie!
