Description One of the guests at the Western Maryland Steel Wheels Festival was the Amtrak Exhibit train. At one end of the train was an Amtrak GE Genesis. At the other a "Screaming Thunderbox" F40PH. These locomotives are very loud!

I've seen one before, they're pretty, but LOUD. At the time I lived by the NS/CSX line in WV, and they had 200+ cars pulled by 4 or more locos, and even THAT wasn't as loud! At least they sound nice though. If it sounds good 'nuff, volume has no effect

Well, they aren't called Screaming thunderboxes for nuth'in. I once stood in the cab of 734 when the pops went off, now that was a little louder than the Thunderbox!

That reminds me of a traction engine I ran last year at William's Grove, every time I would get near it, she'd lift her safety valves X3

Although there was the George White that really wanted to sleep in that morning, one of the fire tubes gave out!
'course it waited 2 hours and 80 PSI to do it, but oh well, we just ran the other two (the 2 cylinder Eclipse was nice....)

Quite a song the Safety Valves sing!

A Flue gave out!?

Yep, that old George White traction engine wasn't quite feeling ready that morning, so we ran the other two instead.

Steam school 2015, and that engine will probably run this time (although the year before it had injector problems, so I don't know whether I've just jinxed it or not  )

Haha! She shall not fail this year!

(and if it does, I blame Canada)

It is Canada's (Ay) fault!

Overlapping boiler plates and a 2-speed flywheel.

Ooooh, sounds sophisticated!

Because only in Canada does one need TWO flywheels on the same shaft, but still uses an old overlapping boiler. Well it certainly looks different to the others!

They also put a beautiful diamond stack on it too

It had to have a special stack cover for it
