Description
A long overdue art trade for which still needs some more line prepping and coloring. But until one of my friends have enough free time to Vector / Live Trace this elaborate piece for me, I'm uploading the inks for the time being, and as a preview of what's to come.asked for me to do an illustration staring the title Super Robot of the 1974-1975 anime series "Getter Robo". And I decided to sweeten the deal by including a swarm / flock of Gyaos from the Gamera movies; particularly the ones from 1998's "Gamera III: The Revenge of Iris" (AKA "Gamera III: Incomplete Struggle")...of whom the mighty Getter Robo is in the midst of massacring, with even more on the way.
I know that many of you would be offended by the mere idea of the popular Gyaos getting their winged behinds taken out by a not-so-obscure anime robot, and one time member of the Shogun Warriors toy-line.
But truth be told, I'm not a big fan of the multiple numbered versions of Gyaos, that were introduced in the 1995-1998 era of Gamera films, with this being my gleefully brutal jab against the fact.
Plus, I take any opportunity to combined giant monsters from totally unrelated franchise and storylines, and toss them together into a crossover style situation.
For the record however, I have not seen much of Getter Robo itself beyond the 'okay' 1998 mini-series "Getter Robo: Armageddon, AND despite the situation I'm presenting above, I am a bigger fan of the lone Gyaos from its original 1967 outing, seen in "Gamera vs. Gyaos".

Gamera in the 90's is like the Dark Knight trilogy of monster movies!!

Even though I 'kind of' find them a bit overrated, I must agree with that statement. And they also gave the genre some major credibility.

Yup,Gamera in his finest yet his most scariest was possibly what scared most fans back then. Godzilla on the other hand was designed to be bad...unless of course its the Showa era version with the second Godzilla throughout the franchise.
Still would love to see "A Space Godzilla" though.

Hey, thanks a bunch for this. I must say I really dig your personal interpretation of my favorite giant robot and I think you made a great job with the shades on this piece. I really like the contrasts and think they give the picture a really foreboding feeling. Thanks again and awesome work!

There's still much work to be done on this piece, but your such a nice guy, and I needed to upload something in the meantime. I just hope the final coloring will be please you as much as the inks have, and thank you for the great comments here!

Pretty cool
So, not a fan of swarm kaiju or just thought Gyaos worked better as lone kaiju?

Gyaos just worked better on his own, which you got in the 1967 film, and a little bit with Super Gyaos in the 1995 one.

Very very cool. I didn't even notice the Gyoas when you sent me the preview of this from before lol. Looks pretty damn sweet. Got to love the crossover ideas that complete nerd-dom can create In fact, I kinda got one brewing now...*laughs manically*

Looking forward to it, whatever it may be. And speaking of unlikely crossovers (and on the off chance you haven't seen this yet); [link]

Yep, the whole flick is on youtube, or at least was. Gavan has really the best hero song ever. I don't know what it is about it, but man it's a smooth song. I really can't wait to see this colored. Your coloring and shading always seems to seamless. Right now I'm trying a burning and dodge tool way of coloring (which is not what I have tried yet). Seems to be slightly longer of a technique but I am having better results than the vector sharp lines of shading and coloring.
And I am too not a fan of Getter Robo as well. Mazinger Z and all his different variations are a much cooler to me But still, this is going to be an amazing piece. I got to learn to incorporate as much black as you do. Really seems to make an art piece pop alot when you do it
