wow, this is some really nice work. "not the most original"? well, maybe the models were not his own, but the image composition is excellant, and this is a helluva lot more origanal than "abstrakt krystalz." 'i think the barren field really adds to the image, and keep up the good work.

i thought id share my thoughts on this debacle.
it boggles my mind to see people blindly praise this piece. to describe the detail as "amazing" and the models as "awsome" when in fact none of those factors in this piece was originally created by the author.
now to critique on the piece itself.
the environment around the knight and the dragon is VERY plain. perhaps add some buildings (castle?) trees, etc? the camera angle is also not very well done. increase the height on the camera maybe or put the camera behind the dragon. lastly, am i the only one who thinks the dragon model itself looks a bit.. weird? the neck seems unnatural and the snout looks very odd.
these are just my opinions, take them as you wish.

now i'm guessing that the knight didn't travel all the way to the ends of the earth for no reason, i'd say the "knightslayer" killed a few of his buddies or something...
oh yeah, i don't care who stole what, this is an AWESOME pic

oh my freakin.... what the... speechless.. THAT IS SO GOD DAMN GOOD. I'm gonna go kill myself now thankyou very much.
That is just too amazing that it's almost wrong. GOD!
I could maybe make a cheap version of the knight in 3d max. But the dragon.... Gahgghhh frigggmmhhgg. way to go.

Very good render here. Gives me the sense that I'm watching this happen ..
Obviously, you'd guess the Dragon would win, but if the knight is sneaky, he can kill the Dragon because the Dragon, a much larger creature, is slower than the Knight, which the Knight can use to his advantage.
The point is ... This is an awesome piece ... I love the detail in this ... Very realistic.
Great job:

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!
By far the best piece I've seen but I agree with agarash about the dragon's head looking a little cartoony. Maybe he needs a wisp of smoke or a heat haze or something.

The dragon looks like a clay figure which came to life! I love how the knight looks, and the scenery is very realistic with snow. Continue the great artwork.

Mrpump has a great point regarding the perspective of the render. I think it would definitely look alot better with a more dramatic perspective. Well, awesome work on the modeling and texturing, keep it up!

Ok...with the risk of this CRIT instead of just praise vanishing among all the other comments I'm still going to give it a shot.
First of all, the modeling is very good, may we see a wireframe perhaps?
The scene lacks depth though, it got the same focus all over, which is bad and makes the scene look like a toy model. I suggest you apply some faint DOF just to blur, very slightly, the beginning and end of the scene. That way it'll look more real and less toyish.
Also, where the spikes come out of his back/spine/whatever, they look just placed there. There is really nothing that indicates that they were grown out or anything like that. The scales should circle around closest to the spikes and be much smaller too, so that the skin is more soft around them, thus allowing some flexibility than rather just rigidity that'd rip up the skin and scales if they were just moved ever so slightly.
Also, the composition could be better, I would suggest raising the camera a few degrees and then rotating it either to the dragon's or to the knight's side a few degrees too. That way the scene would look a bit more dramatic since don't just have them placed in the scene, but rather set up correctly as if something is about to happen. From what I see they could just as well be frozen in time where they stand.
Don't take this the wrong way, it's a good picture, but with some small improvements it could be great!

great image. one thing I would change (had I already created such a wonderful image, which ain't gonna happen ) is the sky -- you could add some drama to the image by making the sky more intense. great modelling on the dragon.

I love this pic...I don't think the dragon has a funny shape head at all...
I often wonder why people always think everything has to be an exact replica.
Its what is in the artists imagination and the emotion they put into it that makes a masterpiece.
Do you intend to do one of the knight on his own..I personally would love to see a close up of him.
Awsome work...I enjoyed it this much.

I think anyone who denounces or calls people idiots for being critical should be shot in the KNEES.
Seriously. I would much rather have constructive criticism applied to my poetry than "oh man!!! THAT'S AWESOME!"
Telling me that my stuff is good helps me not at all. Telling me my stuff sucks helps me not at all. Telling me -why- is what helps, and when someone says 'too linear' I would take it to heart. This is not an oogle session. This is a site for artists, and artists are critical people. DEAL WITH IT. Artists also brag a lot *coughcoughtefflonbilly* and so we have to deal with this as well.
Ok enough of the forum type posting, I honestly wonder if you did this. Not because that the characters are so awesome, but because the surrounding terrain is so BLAH. I mean seriously, who would spend what appears to be DAYS rendering these two magnificent creatures and then make a landscape that is like a blank sheet of paper. OMG I know that if I did the drag and the knight, I would not stop there, I would go all out and make the entire thing complex. But that's just me. The reason I'm so...... cautious, is first of all DAMN that's good, secondly, why would you spend so long on those two and just quit? Seems suspicious.
Yes it is too linear. But a better environment would help that. A lot.

so you didn't make the models.. big whoop.
hell.. . all my human figures are default poser models. (of course i pose them and export them for whatever i'm going for in 3ds)
it's the textures i'm interested in.
did you make the textures?
if so then that big ol' lizard is bad ass.
i could never make a texture that detailed and fitting.
