OK so heres some cutie mark headcannons cuz im always super dissatisfied with a lot of when thinking about them especially Starlight's whole motivation. The new way cutie marks work is that the more connected you are to your talent the more complicated your cutie mark is different cutie marks do different things like move or change or smell good or feel different or make sounds. Twilight and the mane 6 have maybe some of the most complicated cutie marks in all of equestria if you dont count the literal princesses. Twilight's is especially complicated and just gets grander after she becomes and alicorn. Hers shifts with her and her friends moods and its always changing colors or lighting up and doing similar things to rest of the mane 6's marks when she's talking to them or they're feeling a particularly strong emotion. It also lights up and gets warm when she gets happy ort does any type of magic. It's always moving and shifting and when she makes a new friend it seems to get more movement. on the other hand, Starlight's mark is, super lackluster. Sunburst's cutie mark at least warms up a little when he does magic. Starlight's is just small and doesn't move or smell or make sounds or do anything no matter how much magic or other things Starlight does. its just, not an important thing she needs in her life but Starlight just keeps trying to brute force it. This is mostly due to her not really wanting to help people with her magic. Starlight got her cutie mark for selfish reasons to try to continue to be friends with Sunburst and afterward only used her talent for personal reasons. In Starlight's eyes cutie marks don't make you equal, if they did no one would have ones that made you feel like you were constantly falling behind. Starlight doesn't really think that her actually having her mark is a bad thing to lie about because she thinks hers is pathetic already and there's really no difference in her eyes if she has a mark or not.
