See final pic here [link]Created using Paint Shop Pro 7, I learned but many of the tricks showed reading tutorials for Photoshop.
I am using the Italian version so I'm not sure about tools and layer setting names. Let me know if there's something you don't understand of if you find typos and other cr@p

Nope, Paint Shop Pro is not for free, but I think you can easily replace it with (excellent) GIMP which is free [link]

Thank you. I used GIMP but this tutorial helped me a bit. Mine didn't come out as good as yours, but it looks decent enough I guess. Although I don't have the 'Weaken' layer mode, so I improvised, finding one that looked good.

GIMP does have more layer types than Paint Shop Pro 7 but they've all different names.
