I just thought that the lesbian joke had come up a few times, like with shepherd being creeped out by the asari

Shepard (and me too) is creeped out by the shameless fanservice thrown at the player. There's nothing wrong with lesbian characters in videogames (like Silk Fox, Leliana and Juhani for example) but in ME it was different, since asari seem to be aimed to a male audience who likes female on female action.
