Description 'EVERY FAIRY TALE NEEDS A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED VILLAIN'

I know this is a long description but, if you would, please read or I will silently judge you if you say something that shows you haven't read

Inspiration: =agnes-cecile
watercolour, white gel pen, way too much time

I am hopelessly obsessed with BBC Sherlock at the moment (SEASON 3 HAS BEGUN! ) it was a only a matter of time really, but this was unexpected on so many levels.

About the piece

Before I started, there was almost no doubt that this would be a portrait of Sherlock and only Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch is just brilliant) so Moriarty was truly an unexpected turn. Never would've thought I'd make a tribute to Moriarty, but when the idea dawned, why not? So THAT is how, once upon a time, Moriarty made his way onto the page... midnight blue, black, and crimson blooming, almost like bruises, across his face. Crimson because he has made countless individuals bleed without the slightest hint of remorse. Midnight blue and black allude to the blackness of his soul? So cliche OTL Ah, and the hint of a spider web left of his face in reference to Sherlock calling him a spider.

But the piece seemed a bit empty with just Moriarty being all sinister, "calm before the storm" mastermind... so Sherlock and John in lighter colors and yellows in salute to their 'good guy' statuses! As you Sherlockians know, Sherlock and John, especially in 'The Great Game' found themselves caught in Moriarty's intricate web of crime and Moriarty's a tricky one, a worthy opponent. Thus, I specifically chose references to show their desperation, if you will, to put an end to Moriarty's 'reign'. I mean, in a way, Sherlock and John were just as much victims of Moriarty's cruelty as any of those who unfortunately lost their lives--it's painful knowing that people are still dying/suffering as you attempt to close in.

Oh gosh that's awkward! I'm pretty sure the same thing would probably happen to me in a similar situation. X] Clearly, I'm going to have to choose a time and place with great care--from the looks of it, and all the warnings I got, preparation for that is like preparing for a natural disaster to break.
Thanks! I was mostly basing this on "The Great Game" but I wonder how it might've turned had I watched Reichenbach... would it be different? Maybe the post-Reichenbach one would be painted with my abundance of tears. jk.

Ohmahgad this is so amazing. Love all the thought that went into this. I just want to know, how did you do the white outlines? Are they just blank spaces or did you go over them with something?

Oh my goodness, you are too kind! Thank you very much. Those white outlines are white gel pen. Bought it at Michaels specifically for this. IDK... the scanner seemed to have made them a bit harsher than they appear but I suppose it's ok.
I haven't the skill to leave such precise blank spaces. X]

Although I haven't delved into Sherlock quite yet (that's a deep pool that I don't have time to swim right now XD) I have to say that I love this piece. You always use watercolors fantastically and I just love the way everything winds together.

Haha it is a rather deep pool to swim but well worth it, tears and desperation and all! Erm, excuse me while I refrain from making a Sherlock reference with 'deep pool'.

Thank you very much! Even with so few examples of my watercolour you seem convinced of my 'skill' and I appreciate that. So much room for improvement of course but your words are encouraging.

Thank you so very much! It almost seems wrong to take credit for putting this together when things just happened to fall into place like this, no such plan involved, but thanks all the same! And glad you think the expressions suitable. I scrolled through countless pages of Google Image results to find the right ones - glad you think the search paid off

I just adore everything about this picture. The colors, the blending, the way you drew their faces specifically Moriarty. Great job.

Oh my goodness, the highest of praises! Seriously can't thank you enough! Moriarty was a pleasure to paint what with the dark sleekness of his character

I am trying to keep my dA new year's resolution to comment when I fave things...that obviously hasn't been working well!! I think what really struck me about your art was the watercolor style. The way the colors run into each other gives a feeling of how all three of these characters are tied to each other, and they can't be one, with out the other, per se. We will see how they portray Sherlock without a criminal mastermind to chase after!! (I really hope they bring Andrew Scott back in dream sequences, his Moriarty was beyond words.) I love your description of Moriarty here: 'Crimson because he has made countless individuals bleed without the slightest hint of remorse.' Gave me chills!!!

SEASON 3 FTW!!!!

Good resolution there! Good luck! Usually I'm pretty good with leaving a comment, but there's still room for improvement.

'The way the colors run into each other gives a feeling of how all three of these characters are tied to each other, and they can't be one, with out the other, per se.'
Whoa, a brilliant observation! Thank you so much for your insight! And this is why I love comments: people see things that I don't.

Hell yeah, it'd definitely be great to see glimpses of Andrew Scott even after he's been neutralized--he was a bloody awesome villain.

A general thanks to you for your comment! Haven't gotten a chance to read much of your writing, but your poems are lovely!

YES! SEASON 3 FTW!
