Description
I've rendered Lake Superior's November dunes with the help of raw files and Photoshop [link] & [link] , but here is the essence of the light on the dunes... as seen through the pinhole of a primitive camera. It isn't a landscape, it isn't really abstract, it isn't conceptual or even surreal. It's only real home would be in darkroom, but I guess I'll put it in abstact since the essence of something is more or less an abstraction...Daylab pinhole camera
Polaroid 669 film

If you've captured the essence of this Lake Superior here, where I easily follow you, then it shines through it and achieves its full animating function and makes it much more than an abstract, bravo!

A category called "the essence" might be perfect. Suppose we could talk them into that. It would denote a purity of concept and execution having nothing to do with subject matter.
The image...love it!

i really need to get my pinholes out shooting again, but the pile of cameras that still haven't had film run through them is still pretty large. at least it isn't growing that much lately.

ah...Well...its very interesting. Perhaps you could explain the process a bit more...for we ignorant few. Unless you have and I missed it.
....in which case...never mind.

i used a pinhole camera like this one [link] id=1000001480 . there is no viewfinder; you pretty much have to estimate what the lens is "seeing", the lens, of course, being the size of a pinhole. in this photo, i was shooting into the sun that was coming from behind a dune of grass. i think my kids were running around in the foreground. it was a long exposure, probably 5-15 minutes. lots of fun.

OH! That is seriously cool!! I didn't know you could buy cameras like this. ACK! I'm so ignorant!! I really need to read. Do you use film or light sensative paper or what?
Well, I should read and not bother you.
Very cool however. Looks like fun

it's no bother. i used polaroid 669 film. i might buy the next size up of this camera (5x4) in response to the rumor that polaroid is discontinuing its film smaller than 5x4. also, because i like that format. the spent polaroids that don't work make great scans for textures, too! that site is a great place for getting info... the one i linked to for the camera.
