Description My focus in Tuscany this Summer was to shoot Street and to avoid standard tourist pics, but well, what can you do when you see a sky like this. I shot this for HDR (I tried a bracketed series even), but on second thoughts, I thought why would I do that? So, this is

No HDR, No Tonemapping

I must say that I was skeptical about Pisa, seeing it as one of the worst touristic clichΓ©s ever and I postponed going there for quite some time, but I was wrong, it was awesome. Not because there happens to be a leaning tower (I could mention you four more of those from the top of my head), but because of the architecture. The real star for me is the cathedral, with it's Byzantine-Arabian-local Romanesque influenced interior, which - Tardis-like - manages to look bigger than the exterior.
The complex shows that, although Pisa is a provincial backwater now, at one time the Pisans had a reason to feel like they were living in the Tokyo or London of their age.

Photoshop CS3, curves, perspective.

I dedicate this to all my friends and watchers who sent me on my way with the best of wishes, and whom I genuinely missed even amidst visions like the above.

Thanks so much for featuring

No doubt my friend. I dont know why so much publicity to the tower and no one are talking about the cathedral.
Thnak you Eric.

Great job! Even though, at first glance it seems like an overcrowded, overrated place to be, you've managed to capture it from a "fresh" point of view, revealing true beauty of this place!

Thanks very much, Tom! Actually it's the only place in the world where I'm very happy that it's forbiden to walk on the lawn. And it helps to arrive on lunchtime too.

You should fix the perspective, the tower leans to the right

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EricForFriends In reply to djailledie [2009-09-29 07:19:13 +0000 UTC]

I've had several complaints about that (see below). The problem is that the Duomo is built on bad soil and tilting here and there, but I wanted to respect the architect's original concept in my picture so I put it straight, and now the tower is leaning.

great shot
been to Pisa once, and even though it can be a tourist trap, it was amazing. the basilica was probably my favorite. one of the people working there started singing to show off the acoustics of it. someday i'll make it back there and take some proper photos of it

Beautiful shot, Eric. The sky is amazing and sets off the architecture of the cathedral well. The building on the right seems to be a little tilted though.

It drove me mad! In the original, the cathedral was tilted like a pudding and I had that tower straight, honestly, but now that I've I put the cathedral upright, it looks as if the tower has been built by some retard.
