Description This piece is 100% hand made, including hand-machined gears, and hand-threaded screws. It's powered by a weight, which is wound once a week. It also features a maintaining-spring, which means that it has a reserve of power that keeps it ticking even during winding. I've been testing this one for accuracy over the last month, and it has been within two seconds a week.

I just had to favour a clock. I love the look of all of this work. I'm far from being any kind of craftsman or tradition 'artist' but do what I can with what I have.
This is a mix of 'traditional art' done by aegiandyad and other more or even less well known:Β  www.deviantart.com/aegiandyad/…

How is it possible that you are on dA for 10 years and I never saw a piece of you until now? This needs more attention. It's unbelievable how skilled you are. Wow!

All of your clocks are beautiful and amazing, but this one is my favorite. It has such an elegant and fragile feel. Everything about it is perfect.

awesome piece! also 2 second variation by a week is freaking astonishing accuracy, chronometer quality! Im not seeing a pendulum, what escapement does this have?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ericfreitas In reply to windsormagistus [2017-08-03 15:57:21 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I'm extremely happy with the accuracy. I've always been satisfied if a piece was within a minute a week, but this raises the bar. The pendulum actually isn't visible in this shot, but in the closeups of the bottom of the clock (other pictures) you can see it tucked behind the VI. It's a 1/2 second dead beat escapement.

windsormagistus In reply to ericfreitas [2017-08-03 16:17:19 +0000 UTC]

you seriously got a dead beat escapement to run within 2s/week??? thats pretty damn good! I was glad when I got a high quality graham to run within <2 minutes per week with thermally regulated 1 meter pendulum at school

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ericfreitas In reply to windsormagistus [2017-08-03 20:55:15 +0000 UTC]

After 18 days of testing from the most recent adjustment it was slowly gaining time until it was about 4 seconds fast. I was pretty surprised to be honest, but I'll take it. No thermal regulation or jeweled pallets, and no invar . Just polished steel pallets and a stainless pendulum rod. It's worth noting that the temperature and humidity in my house has been constant. Variations in those things would likely affect the timekeeping.

Side note: I'm jealous that you even have schools for clock/watch making over there. They're no where to be found over here

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

windsormagistus In reply to ericfreitas [2017-08-04 15:38:01 +0000 UTC]

yeah well if the temperature and humidity stay constant then it is possible to get pretty accurate results with enough work, but when you start to go in to the one second or less per week range, even the moon has a small effect on the variation, and in that range you will start to need a well planned enviroment to get super precise accuracy. with these basic materials that you're using its a superb result to get a dead beat to that kind of accuracy

and yeah I feel super lucky that I got accepted as a watchmaker student, there is only one watchmaker school in finland, but its one of the best in the world. I know that the AWCI has few schools around the US but ofcourse its a huge country and by watching your work, I'd say that you dont even need any school to teach you
