Description I've been making jewelry for years now. I always give them away so I have very few pics of the things I have made.

My mother found a pic of a potpourri bracelet in a magazine that was selling for $400 bucks and she wanted me to make it...so I did. It got me hooked on making these bracelets though and I have made about 10 of them now. All different. I make my own beads and then get some from the store.

This bracelet is my winter version.

Thanks for stopping by.

Wonderful Erik!! Love the colours in this!! I also had my time with glass beads and making necklaces and bracelets about a year ago,,using silver rings like this! Omg,,had a whole collection of different beads, sold them and gave away for presents! I really enjoyed that..now that period is totally SO over,,it comes in cycles for me,,those creative stuff, nowdays itΒ΄s only photoshop!! BTW..again lovely work, those are really my fav colours..your mom must have been pleased!!

I don't like making them all the time. It comes and goes for me too. I like bending wire...LOL. I don't know why. Playing with clay is fun too. I feel like I have more control over what I am making than when I make a manip.

Yes I know,,I think itΒ΄s only a matter of practise..as with everything, there is so much to learn in creating a manip!I love working in clay,,oh love it, had a studio before and made pottery lol..miss that! I could spend the whole night there, and then go right to work!! Weird,,but fun!!

Making pottery would be fun. I have never done it but always wanted to.

Ohh you really should try it, once you started itΒ΄s soooo much fun..itΒ΄s hard in the beginning, takes a lot of practice just to get the clay centered... and without air bubbles in it..

I tried making a pendant once. It didn't look very good. What kind of pendant are you wanting to make?

meenajolly In reply to ErikDShipley [2008-12-23 20:27:22 +0000 UTC]

well I want something like this [link]

I don't know if its possible to make this kind at home..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikDShipley In reply to meenajolly [2008-12-23 20:46:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it would depend on what type of materials you would want it made out of. Metal I am sure would be harder to make at home than clay. Have you ever used polymer clay? Like scupley. Polymer clay is great to use. You can make faux stones, stained glass etc with it. It can be shaped while it is soft. It stays soft until you bake it. Then when its baked it can be carved and painted.

so I can make the pendant using ploymer clay ..is it safe to put some stone in it..like the one in pic. and then bake it?? Thanks for your input and time Erik I am really excited to make one now!!

ErikDShipley In reply to meenajolly [2008-12-23 22:16:09 +0000 UTC]

It really depends on the stone. Some stones change color in heat so it is probably best to put the stone in after if bakes. I've ruined a couple of stones by heating them. They were ugly.

After its baked you can use any paint, oils, stains etc. you want on it.

They have "metallic" polymer clay. It doesnt have any metal in it but it looks like metal. The brands of clay I use are Sculpey and Premo. They have soft/hard types and all different colors.

How do you make your own beads?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikDShipley In reply to ahoberer78 [2008-12-23 18:13:40 +0000 UTC]

I use polymer clay. I've tried making glass beads but I am not good at it. Actually, I am pretty dangerous when I play with glass. Things explode on me.

Hmmm, very interesting! My mother makes jewelry too!

Don't forget to wear your goggles! Safety First!

I know. I have seen your Mother's jewelry. Its awesome. She is very talented.

I do wear goggles!! Well...I did.

There is a metal clay too that I have played with. It dries out quickly though and is expensive. But, after forming something ya just heat it with a torch and it turns into metal. Like 99.999% pure silver/gold.
