Description I've been making jewelry for years now. I always give them away so I have very few pics of the things I have made.

My mother found a pic of a potpourri bracelet in a magazine that was selling for $400 bucks and she wanted me to make it...so I did. It got me hooked on making these bracelets though and I have made about 10 of them now. All different. I make my own beads and then get some from the store.

This bracelet is my winter version.

Thanks for stopping by.

Beautiful. I like the colors. Did you imitate the picture she showed you exactly or take liberties??

How long does it take you to do a bracelet like this?

ErikDShipley In reply to Ivymere [2009-09-08 05:11:06 +0000 UTC]

HI! Good to hear from you.

No imitation at all. It's just the same type of bracelet "potpourri". I made it pretty quickly.

Oh so she just wanted the type! I see! That's awesome. I haven't done any bead stuff in over a year...kind of sad, hehe. I want to take up earrings again.

You should. I love working with my hands...not just pushing around a mouse.

Yeah...it's really different. My teacher calls using a mouse like trying to move shit with a potato.

The only textural feel you get is the mouse. I like feeling the clay, wire, glass, cloth. Squishing clay is very satisfying.

I bet! Although I draw my experience from play-doh ^_^. Haven't had any clay projects since elementary school ceramics!

I love the smell of play-doh. Love all your new pics btw. You are talented. I was wondering if (if you had the time) you could make things for your photos. Like a paper mache pumpkin for a halloween pic. Or even some simple jewelry. I doubt you have the time but maybe in the future.

Ivymere In reply to ErikDShipley [2009-09-17 07:08:00 +0000 UTC]

I miss play-doh. I was so sad when my mom took away my little cousin's play-doh gift before I gave it to her, citing "allergies" (I was trying to encourage creativity!).

Thanks . I wish I was talented, but I'm still learning. You live, you learn, right? I've actually been wanting to bead some items and take photos of it (more in part for my portfolio than for anything) but I have to admit, I've been feeling really uninspired.

Do you ever feel that way?

ErikDShipley In reply to Ivymere [2009-09-18 18:05:40 +0000 UTC]

Do I feel that way!?! Are you kiddin? haha. Actually, I pretty much always have ideas in my head I just don't have the energy to do. Well...the will-power. :/

Ivymere In reply to ErikDShipley [2009-09-19 00:25:50 +0000 UTC]

That's awesome! The idea part , not the lack of willpower part.

Wow! You don't really give this stuff away, do you? You're out of your mind!! People pay good money for gorgeous pieces like this. I love it! You are so talented at so many things... I'm jealous. Beautiful job - but seriously, you're ripping yourself off. Next time you've got some gorgeous shiny things to give away, remember your belly dancer friend in Hawaii Wait, I hope you don't have more than one belly dancer friend in Hawaii....

haha. I was thinking about you the other day. I don't watch the news much but a friend said there was a tornado in hawaii. Kinda strange.

love this one... I've done some beading/jewelry making too, but I really want to make my own beads.. how did you start?

(like a need a new hobby!)

ErikDShipley In reply to Moon-Willow [2009-01-04 00:36:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I found a lot of things online about beadmaking with polymer clay. Lots of people make "canes" and then form them into beads. Canes are polymer clay cut and rolled into a can shape. I am not good at explaining it and I have never made a cane before. But, I hear its a nice way to make beads. Personally, I just roll polymer into a ball and then use things to shape them and press them. It really is limited to your own imagination what you can do with polymer clay.

I also tried glass. I think its too dangerous for me. My glass exploded on me all the time. HAHA. :/

aaahhhh....I've actually made some polymer clay beads... but nothing that I truly liked... I've added them in hemp bracelets. I want to do glass, but I'd probably fail! need goggles too!

Just don't leave the glass out of the flame for very long. It is kinda scary.
