A little fun thing. Decided to try my own take on a more realistic looking pic of the main Avatar characters. Aang's tattoo redesign is inspired by some Tibetan tattoo's that I found and Zuko's armor is a blend of Chinese styles. Sokka and Katara's outfits are taken from caribou parka's that some Inuit tribes wear.Related content

I like how this Katara looks less Caucasian than most attempts at realism.
Zuko's scar is amazing but for some reason he doesn't look very much like Zuko. Hmmmm. Maybe 'cause he has such a dainty and pointy chin.

I've gotta say, my favourite parts are the tattoo and the burn mark. Very Awesome interpretation!

Well, I actually was looking at Tibetan tattoos. Since the Air Nomads are obviously based off of Tibetan monks, I thought it appropriate
They have this lovely almost brush stroke look to many of their designs, so I tried to go with something along those lines.

Thanks! He was based off this adorable Burmese monk that I found while doing some research. This kid had the most...knowing look in his eyes. It was very cool

And yeah, I have been following the whole live action thing, but honestly, it leaves me a little cold. I'm not impressed when they decide to chuck diversity out the window in favor of the whole 'white saviors' thing. I'm probably just going to do a marathon of the cartoon

For me it was more of the casting of white actors for Sokka and Katara. I could have excepted a white Aang like they did, although I thought a little Chinese American Aang would have been frikken adorable!
But it kinda rubbed me the wrong way when they made all the heroes (in the fact that Zuko's not a hero until the last season) white. It brings up a rather bad visual of dark skinned (Fire Nation is now lead by Persian/Indian/Pacific Islanders) people terrorizing and preforming genocide on white people (Air Nomads and Water tribe being white now).
That and the film critic in me is looking at the designs and thinking that it's all starting to look like a generic martial arts flick with all the visual changes. I showed the pics to one of my friends who's a casual Avatar fan and she kinda laughed because none of the images invoked Avatar. She thought it looked more like some SciFi channel movie of the week set in some quasi Asin fantasy world with white people.

It was mainly the shapes and the lines that I liked. Most of the actual tattoos seem to be of religious images and sayings.
