A realistic take on my favorite old ass kickers (plus Gyatso). Iroh was based off a pic of Mako from around 1994. Best smile ever.Related content

Gyatso actually is an ass kicker when you think about. When Aang first found his body, it was surrounded by several Fire Nation soldiers who had invaded when their fire bending was being empowered by Sozin's Comet. In other words, while Gyatso did die in battle, he went down fighting like a champ!

Thanks! Had to use Mako for Iroh and Bumi was a bit...weird to make fit in a more realistic look, but I think they all came out well.

I based it on traditional Tibetan tattoos, simple but still reatining the iconic look I think

Thanks! It was fun to do. I tracked down various ethnic groups for China for Iroh, Jong Jong and Gyatso and then Korea for Bumi (although he had a little more...eh... creative liberties)and then an Inuit model for Pakku. The looks from the cartoon are all historically based so they worked easily in RL

Th-this is amazing :'D I really love how they all came out, especially Pakku. Some fans are quick to generalize, and want an all-Asian cast, and forget that the Water Tribe is very Inuit, or possibly even Native American, and absolutely not Japanese or what.

Glad you like it! I actually based Pakku off research I did of not only Inuit men, but also the Asian Yupik people. It was really fun and challenging to look and research the various parts of East Asia and others to put this together.

Thanks! His and Aangs were based off of traditional Tibetan tattoos that I found. They have this almost brush stroke quality to them and it's wonderfully graphic looking.

Yeah. It's like I find guys easier to draw then gals. I think I have some sort of soft line block or something
I think it's all the angles. I can block the image out in my head easier then I can with a kid which is a smoother or softer shape.
