Wouldn't the Russians just subjugate the west and slowly pick of the small nations and then gain a bit of ground, wait a while and build up and then do a critical mass wave past the first few border countries and into France?

Who would stop them? No one has kids in the nordic countries and their armies are defensive and the last time they were offensive they offed their own leader internally to preserve the nation from over extension. There is a reason why Sweden and Switzerland have a special understanding because they both have the same neutral defensive stand point.

Also if they got aid from China Europe would fall. What even are those tiny central powers? Wouldn't they just get annexed by a more powerful power? I think Germany grew strong in the real world because of the Rhine trade and that it had be strong in order to survive like a mini land war in Asia in the game of Risk, threats on all sides as a central power.

The only reason Europe was a border-gore fest in the sword and horse days was because armies and food production were handicapped in what they could influence. With mechanized warfare this map would change and all those tiny central powers would get gobbled up by a large hammer from the east smashing them with mass industrialization.

There is a reason why NATO and imperial attitudes are prevailing right now in Europe. The east is on the rise again and Europe is governmentally weak within and in a power transition. Ukraine got molested and Europe and the west could do nothing with their peace and business focused policies and Russia knew this and leveraged the opportunity unabided; the same is true with China and the South China Sea Nine Dash Line and the String of Pearls and the One Belt One Road initiative.

Your map is not realistic to geopolitical realities in Europe. If every nation in Europe was like the Balkans then Russia would just move in and do a Poland 2.0 and then when people go to vote they would do a Hungry 2.0. Then there might be a hot cold war of the Americas verses a fractured Europe and a chaotic China fighting in Europe around U.K. and France and the pacific that would likely end in a weird stalemate and another Berlin wall 2.0 type of division of Europe with the dictorial regimes both falling from within due corruption and the faults of centralized autocratic power structure in both China and Russia.

This would be followed by an economic crash for the majority of the globe (perhaps not Wall Street though) when the war econmy fails. Then when the centralist's tanks have no fuel and the pensions go unpaid and the airspace is undefended and the centralist power leaders are openly corrupt and failing this will be followed by a populist independence of the smaller border states demanding a higher standard of living.

The majority of the independence movement ways would succeed as the eastern bloc runs out of money and the careerist politicians take the money and run to a 'Swiss bank account' and or an off shore bank account while their home nation crumbles and burns with their friends back home being framed executed for their crimes. Standing armies are not free; you cannot have a full army and peace at the same time lest your nation implodes from within.

Perhaps even enough time would pass to heal the wounds on both side where there could be a whole spattering of small easily subjugated buffer nations having a false sense of safely as the east will one day rise again but perhaps by then there will be a type of E.U. empire to fight back; a thousand strings and one puppet master in Belgium.

The large country in the east is not Russia, it's the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, they are counterbalanced by France and the UK (the UK especially doesn't want large European states) which still have extensive colonial empires. Central Europe is a mass of essentially buffer states between France and the Commonwealth, which both sides maintain as a precaution. There's no US or NATO or EU. China is still more or less controlled from outside by the Great Powers.

The Commonwealth (Polish one not, the UK one) is decentralised enough so as not to be that much of a threat and has little interest in expanding into Western Europe. The reason it doesn't own Estonia or Finland is that Finland was granted independence from Sweden and Estonia from Denmark and they are under Commonwealth protection, so they don't complain about the Commonwealth owning Karelia.

This is not a map of the future. It's an alt-history map with a divergence point some 400 years ago.
