it all depends on what you want it to look like.... if your going for a glossy finish... or whatnot... either way you'll prolly be better off juss unwrappin in.. i think u use max? yeah, juss unwrap it that way at least you can go in an paint your own personalized print on it... then for some glossyness, Id add a reflection map... u can try 2 customize it if u want... or u could juss use phong, or even a blinn with a super glossy fall off.... u might not want any other tips... but i'd work on the toe of the boot.. it needs to be smoothed out... maybe fix your smoothing groups, or refine the model.

good luck!

um.... sure.. I'll do my best.. but ur best bet is to look for tutorials on the net... there'll be thousands... the one great thing about max is that there are tonnes of users... so tonnes of support.... Well, basically for smoothing groups... just use your polygonal sub-object sellection to select the area around the toe... then what you wanna do is go down to smoothing groups, and where you see the ID.. juss clear all.. then assign them their own number... basically all polygons with the same smoothing id will smooth togethar... that's how u can control..... if ur havin problems... maybe u could try to refine the model to add more cuts to round it out better... if your using a mesh smooth, that will help greatly

hey thanks a lot for the comment, i've never been really good with texturing, but i'll try unwrapping it (i have an unwrapping plugin that makes it easier, though). and could you tell me a little more about smoothing groups? i've always hated having material ids and groups and stuff, maybe i just never understood it, lol
