Being as how I have never actually played the game but have watched walkthroughs of it, I can't help but be puzzled by Rei. All of this crazy stuff is happening around her, and yet, she barely freaks out (from what I can tell anyway). I'm sorry, but if I woke up from a dream where I was being attacked by a ghost lady and she's all hangin' off my arm, I'd be freakin' out to the max! And lashing out with the nearest weapon object available!
Okay, MAYBE Rei doesn't have a bat near her bed, but let's pretend that she does for... unknown reasons.... yeah....
Cheap Backgrounds are cheap, too. But, Rei's room, at least that corner, is rather plain... so I can afford to be cheap!

The freakiest thing that she does in the game was when she put her head inside the open space on her ceiling.Β

"This is MY SAFE PLACE" - YES. THIS. This is exactly why the third game unnerved me the most, and, incidentally, it's the reason I love this game so much. Having the horrors of dreams slowly creep into your safe place is absolutely more frightening than constant exposure to the things that scare you; that false sense of security just put me so on edge. This picture puts a wonderful smile on my face!
Also, a note on Rei... my understanding is that she's suffering from generalized apathy in the wake of Yuu's death; she's become so lost in her grief that nothing in life can touch her anymore - not even the creepy-ass dead lady gripping her arm first thing in the morning. It's an interesting parallel to what Reika goes through in her path to becoming a priestess, where she sheds her attachments to the world after "losing" Kaname (when he left the village). "He's gone and I'm along, nothing matters anymore." Notice that as Rei gets closer to Yuu in the dream, you start to see her acting a bit more appropriately to the house things that should rightfully scare the bejesus out of her (i.e. bailing from the grabby-hands in Yuu's attic). /psychoanalysis

How did you react to the other things that happened in her room? Like the crawling woman hiding under the desk or the crying girl in the closet? Or even the arm sticking out from the bed?

When I watch the game being played on youtube (when Snake plays) I'm laughing at him getting scared, but also jumping a bit at some of the scares. Sometimes get a little creeped to turn around.
But when /I/ play? I'm a total wuss! XD I can't play without another person around, and even then that doesn't help!
