Description Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on whosi.

It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts. … However, this mirror will give use neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible.
~Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, pg. 213 (American edition)

(This looks so much better if you download it.)

This idea has actually been stewing in my head for… almost a year now. oO
I was sitting in one of my more boring classes at CIA (yeah, that long ago) and making Harry Potter doodles. And of course, my one-track mind thinks huh, what would XR see if he looked in the Mirror of Erised? And the other half of my one-track mind went well duh, he’d see himself with Mira. X3

So, yes. That’s what’s going on here.

Reflections are hard. o-o I actually stuck my little McDonalds XR in front of a hand-held mirror for reference. It helped a lot. XD

One of my goals when I started this challenge was to make every picture look as different from the others as possible. So when I started with this I had the idea to make it look like a painting. Then I remembered, I suck at painting. X3 I ended up using a technique I’ve used in the past, trying a couple different things. I don’t know- it probably doesn’t look all that different at all. :/

I had so much fun with that frame, oh yes. It’s still one of my favorite things about this, along with XR’s reflection. Funny thing is, that’s not how I imagine the Mirror of Erised at all, but it’s how I always saw it for this picture.

The curtains were important for two reasons. They were always in there; I wanted something that was distinctly Potterish, and curtains and veils show up a lot in the books. Plus, the illustration on the jacket of the American hardcover copy is bordered by curtains.

And they’re red. As in, desire and passion.

Yep.

The moon and the stars were the last thing I added; that space just seemed too empty. And, of course, the night sky is a recurrent symbol in the Potter books. ^^

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble. Hope you enjoy the picture!

;__________;
This is making me really sad somehow But I love it at the same time!

It's beautiful! It does look like a painting, I love how you did that, and the symbolism too. The rim on the miror is superb, it looks 3D! And you did really well on the reflection! The angle is perfect. That's so clever to use a mirror and your McDonald's XR as a ref!

Haha, thanks! I'm surprised I thought of it, but it worked spectacularly. XD

Yeah, it is kind of sad... But I guess that's the nature of the mirror.

Wow, thank you so much for all of your kind words! I'm so glad you like it!

I think this coloring is AMAZING. It's like paint, but softer- and it's definitely different. Don't even get me started on that shading. It blows my mind.

Now get on AIM.

This is so pretty. I love your style, and poor XR! The mirror from Hogwarts was a great idea. So much symbolism as well. Great job!
