Description
This is the second and final version of the Goblin.I reworked the eyes, the nose and many other facial features. I thought the original version didn't look quite the part, so I decided to age him a lot more.
The skin color texture was poly-painted in ZB by hand (no texture sampling used).
Rendered in ZB using BPR.
Composited and color corrected in Photoshop.
Original low-rez mesh modeled in Maya 2010: 3,592 polys
Sculpted, textured, polypainted and rendered in ZBrush 4: 58.5 million polys
Cymae, Thank you so much for the DD!
This is my first one and I am absolutely delighted, thank you all for the support and the kind words!

Fantastic work on the anatomy and detailing! You could take care of the eyes a bit more, imho, right now they look less impressive than the rest of the bust.

Thanks you so much for your kind words and honest assessment!
You have a point about the eyes. At the time, I wasn't really sure what to do with them. So after many failed attempts I decided to just use a very simple shader, temporarily, while I came up with a better idea. The current version of the Goblin (which I haven't posted yet) has regular humanoid eyes.
Thanks again for your nice comments!

The neck detail was fun to do. It didn't look quite right for a while, but finally I got it close to what I wanted.

ZBrush-rendering-wise, maybe the black eyes could do with a sharper reflection?

You made an already great looking piece even better. So you made all the color just with poly paint? You have a great understanding of color and anatomy then. I'd struggle to get even close to this. I'm really liking all the creases and wrinkles I didn't notice in the other version. One minor thing I've noticed is the vertical lines that are mirrored on the top of the forehead. It looks weird and I hope you'll get rid of them, or at least one of them because they jump out and are too symmetrical.

Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to comment at length about this piece, and thank you for your very kind words.
Yes, I made the color textures just with poly-paint and a few simple brushes. I use several semi-transparent layers of different pigments. When you look at these layers separately they look strange and way off, but when stacked together they mix optically in the viewers brain giving the illusion of depth.
I hear you about the wrinkles and creases; the last version didn't have as many, and the ones it had were not very defined. The problem I had was that I made the mistake of taking the whole mesh up to it's highest possible sub-D, and it just was simply not enough resolution, and the wrinkles lost tons of definition. This time around, I left it at sub-d 6, and then went directly into HD Geometry. It's a bitch not being able to work on the entire mesh at once, but this way I was able to extract really nice resolution and definition.
About the symmetrical lines coming up on the forehead, you are absolutely right, they are quite distracting. I will do some magic to it and blend those babies better for the next version. Those veins are anatomically correct, but they blend a lot better in real life and I am sure they're not as symmetrical. Thank you for your honest assessment!
