Description
You know, this job was stressful enough before ugly, pseudo-feminist bimbos started obsessing about my ass. And my costume. "She's being objectified, not portrayed as strong and having a healthy sexuality!" Really? I'm climbing onto a rooftop, you dimwit. And I'm a superheroine. "Painted on" costumes are par for the course. The guys wear them, too, which you would know if you actually cared about the comics or the character. But no, you don't know Jessica Drew from Nancy Drew from Drew Barrymore. So lighten up, Bella Abzug, we can't all be over-educated, under-intelligent ersatz feminists like you. Some of us are too busy saving the world or just showing up to work real, productive jobs to whine about objectification and the oppression of the patriarchy.===============================================================================
wanted to do this shot, which is based somewhat on the recent, controversial alternate cover for Marvel's Spider-Woman #1. So I agreed to pose for her. I mean, to objectify myself. Either way, we hope you like it. Donna did all the hard work, I just put on the costume and tried to stay still. We hadn't really intended to make any statement with it other than we thought the kerfuffle over this was way overblown, but I had to write something for the caption, didn't I?

Assuming you're not being sarcastic and actually believe everything you said above, you are now officially my hero. Having had the misfortune of debating with and talking to some truly insufferable and annoying "arch-feminists" with the exact kind of world-view you're criticizing, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see someone else here who sees things more my way. Me personally, I consider myself a feminist. I believe that women should get equal pay, equal opportunity, not be dismissed as unintelligent for being women, and certainly not be violently oppressed and mistreated. I believe all of those things. What I DO NOT, and never, ever will believe, is this completely draconian and puritanical view some people have on what is and is not aesthetically acceptable for (fictional) women. And honestly I do not think that is unreasonable, and it annoys the living hell out of me that some people think it is. So basically, I just wanted to say...thank you for posting this.

You are welcome, and I'm not being sarcastic at all. The "social justice warrior" is typically anti-social, has no understanding of what justice really means, and is the farthest thing on the planet from being a "warrior" of any kind. They wouldn't know what it means to be a real feminist if their lives depended on it. They're control freaks projecting their own failures and insecurities onto everyone else. I have nothing but utter contempt for them, and they're doing far more to damage real feminism than the "patriarchy" ever could!

Well, the feminists always need something new to feel victimised about, don't they? They were running out of things to feel victimised about, and then, bang! this cover.

heh... this was given much analysis over at eschergirls.tumblr.com "Escher Girls" -- where folks post the most obvious mis-shaping of the female form in the printed world.
Spider Woman ... there was one really smart artist who did a 'wire frame skeleton' analysis which kind of showed how the original 'butt pose' would have landed Miss Spidey with a face plant off the ledge.
eschergirls.tumblr.com/post/95…
Then they did a 'normal' body skeleton relationship (which GOOD artists have to learn but most comic artists over the last couple of decades have totally ignored!) -- um, anyway, did a totally realistic rendering -- still looked good but was not the blatant 'ass skyward' pose the original dude had done for the cover.
Well done here E... as always, quality costume and presentation!

Haha, guess they had nothing better to do! I saw the pseudo analysis, too bad the dumb artist didn't even realise that spiderwoman was climbing up in the original (as shown here), not down, lol.

Beautiful!
I agree with your assessment of the cover. I think the reaction was overblown.

Awesome work and I'm with you! Some people are just looking for anything to make controversy about! The link Tsimmu posted, shows Spider Man almost practically in the same freaking pose. However do anyone hear or read, he is not "straight" and objectify because he is in that position!? No, but it is what it is on this world we live in now.

And I love the argument that they'd never do it to SpiderMAN, only Spiderwoman.

You're right. It's exactly the same position. Spiderwoman can't help it if she looks so much better, at least in my eyes!

Great work, and well said. I think we live in this hyper-sensitive era in which some folks look for a reason be 'offended.' My message to them is 'lighten up!'

I'm getting tired of the term "objectification of women" getting thrown around too!
It diminishes the importance of what I do, which is literally turning women, particularly super heroes, into objects like statues and dolls! And they use the term like making someone an object is a bad thing. I've never heard any complaints from my statues or dolls!

Looks more like DOGGYstyle to me.
Call me a pervert.
PS "ersatz feminists" - is that word actually used in (American) English?!

Also donnaDomenitzo - male perspective here.
Everything Etherea has said is true; just add the note that IMO most women who rant about "the objectification of women" are now people that you'd want to see in this pose anyway (unlike my present company)!

My only comment is that I'm not really personally concerned with the "objectification" of Spider-Woman. That said... I'm a BIG fan of the objectification of Etherea!!!
And also...if all you did was stay still this would be a very still standing object.... and its not!
