Description There is a theory that assumes that Earth is an abandoned experience, left on its own a long, long time ago.
The big question hidden behind this idea is the one which worries us the most, since we were born/created : who are the great creators ? who allowed that ? gods ? mad scientists ? aliens ? or maybe more evolved humanoid creatures ? or maybe people very similar to us... observing the way we are evolving through time.
We'll never know the truth, but I keep wondering.

This is great, raises lots of questions that I'm interested in too. Though I think our origins were probably just through spontaneous chemical reactions that lead to cells that could metabolise etc etc, allowing the process of evolution to occur. I suppose it's an unromantic way to look at it... the idea of mad scientists creating us is far more exciting.

I agree more with your 'spontaneous' vision of the creation of life than all the other theories, but in fact, it is not more or less probable than the existence of a big creator/creators/mad scientists/conscious energy or all that stuff humanity tried to imagine as we don't know, everything, even the craziest assumptions, are possible...

This is crazy... crazy cool!
I've always been pretty bored by the idea that we are some abandoned alien science project, but I do like the way you've depicted it.

This piece is full of pain, obviously. It's very harsh and unloving. To me, it seems to symbolize humanity's feeling of betrayal. "Why are we like this? If we were created, why weren't we created whole and happy?"

I love all the detail in the wires!

Question: if aliens/scientists/whatever are powerful enough to put us in this scenario, how are they fundamentally different from gods anyway? Aliens: the safe word for an atheist's God, haha. By the way, pretty defeatist to assume we'll never know the truth!

Hey!!! I don't know why, I haven't seen this message until today... it appeared when I suppressed some other messages, so I am very sorry that I am answering it only today, a few months later sorry again!

First of all, thank you very much for this nice comment, it made me prouder of this piece I really wanted it to look painful, as you said, we feel kinda betrayed, but we have nobody to accuse for all our suffering except ourselves, as we don't know What/Who is upon us. You're right that I am defeatist to assume we'll never know the truth, but actually I am worse than that : I am so pessimist that I think we will never know the big Truth because we're all going to die before finding something concrete about it, victims of ourselves again, destroying our species in war and illness, diseases born with pollution, and the degradation of the Earth.
I totally agree with the idea that aliens = gods, and this was one of the idea behind this painting. God is just a generic terme to describe somebody or something dominating us, who created us, omnipresent and almighty, in front of who we are really weak and small. So everything could actually be this "god", and why not aliens!
I also wanted the aliens to look like humans, not very different from us. Maybe we are some kind of gods too, reinventing ourselves as humans

Thanks again for your comment, and sorry again for the delay !

The big question, who created us? We created ourselfs, and still are = )

Etheroxyde In reply to LesleyCristina [2011-07-05 14:05:54 +0000 UTC]

But there are a lot of different ways to create ourselves, and there's always a risk to do it 'wrong'... to make mistakes. We should stay careful and always think twice about the big decisions we have (or will have) to make

thank you ! I am glad you like it

I think this stage of evolution (humans and machines mixed together) is inevitable... except if humanity become extinct before (in the case of a nuclear world war, for example ).
By the way transhumanism and posthumanism are very interesting philosophies (helping humanity to evolve by our own technologies).

I think humans will be around for some time... At least some, somehow.

I don't know about those philosophies. They sound interesting, and i'm scared already...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Etheroxyde In reply to AntonioCollado [2011-07-08 09:01:13 +0000 UTC]

They are particularly interesting because they are necessary, we can not prevent Humanity from changing and we are already using our technologies as 'life support' machines. Naturally we need people to think about what will be the next step, how we could do it in the best way possible for us, and do our best to avoid the kind of scene depicted in my painting

Given time, that could happen... They are considering male breast feeding with the help of hormonal inyections and surgical intervention. Who knows what they are already doing, what freaks are being created in the dark...
