Description
"Let slip the dogs of war", a famous phrase uttered by Julius Caesar (according to William Shakespeare) was the single biggest advancement in the Ancient dog civil liberties movement. Until then, almost all dogs were not permitted to slip under any circumstances, even in icy conditions. The dogs depicted here are firmly planted on the ground, as was every other dog in the Classical Greek period, long before Caesar's liberating phrase was spoken.Related content

Their forequarters look a lot more muscular than many dogs.

Ancient dog civil liberties movement, hey?
If I was aware of that, I would certainly write a different paper at my master classes!

If you take a look at the descriptions to my other historical illustrations, you'll find out that I drop the kind of knowledge bombs you won't find at the university.

Whew! What a relief. I'm so glad I made you laugh, that is my goal and ambition. I'm sorry you died though.
You bring back a little bit of my hope for humanity. There is a disturbing number of people who actually believe my captions that accompany the illustrations O_o

Well, thank god, I am a historian myself, so it would mean that I missed my whole education if I believed your stories.
But, you know, your stories DO sound believable to people with no notion of history at all (tell me about it! I have been receiving the same reactions about my short para-historical comic stories β obviously unbelievable!- Β for AGES!) β¦

Excellent picture! The dogs are molossians or another beast type of the "best friend of the man"?

Thank you! They are indeed Molossians, based on these sculptures:
