Description HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and !

NOTE: This is not my version of jumping on the Snape bandwagon. Why?
A) It's being overdone to death; Snape was never that cuddly. I mean, come on, there's a reason Lily married James.
B) My mom is one of my most trusted critics and hasn't read the book yet, so no shpoilers for her.

Anywho! This is my first male Harry Potter character that I've drawn. We had just happened to watch HP5 (for my fourth time; I'm not one to say "no" to an opportunity like that when it arises. ) at the IMAX in Huntsville, AL (HP on a dome... The panning shots were awesome!!) when I was suddenly struck by the fact that Alan Rickman is the most perfect actor for Snape and that his costume is absolutely gorgeous. I want a cloak like that. So I was inspired to draw Snape.

Don't ask me why it's taken me five movies to realize both of the aforementioned facts about Snape in the movies.

The way I've drawn him is closer to what I see his actual age as. In the books he's only, what, in his forties? But Mr. Rickman is again such an awesome Snape that I can forgive him for being a few years older than that.

EDIT:
M'kay, so the only other actor I might possibly see playing Snape is Jeremy Irons. And whaddya know, he's, er, actually played the part! And I do like his portrayal of Snape. lol.

Oh! This is actually another of my infamous Sunday sketches. But it turned out so perfectly I didn't dare re-draw it on bigger paper.

Anywho!

Oh noes... does your evilness also carry any femininity with it? ^.^;; If so, I'm in trouble... evil I can handle! But... a cute and girlish nature?

Hmm... that's a valid question ^.^ But I'm sure that even E.O.A. types have circumstances in which they can be happy and derive some sort of pleasure from personal and non-evil communication.

Hmmm... I could just claim it as a bit of P.R. practice so that I won't be so awkward talking with the people below my in the future, I suppose... Knowing how to actually smile makes quite a difference in how the people perceive an overlord, I've noticed.

Uh huh. Tell me, is that halo hovering over your head by itself, or are there horns holding it up by the sides? These angel emotes are a little vague on the details.

Singing is fun... Especially when no one else is around to listen to me warble.

<.<;;; >.>;;;

Hahaha, while I have absolutely NO grounds for saying so, I somehow doubt that you 'warable' (brings a chocobo to mind, isn't that ironic?)... you likely have a lovely voice and you're just being mean to you! Who has horns now, huh?!

If you insist.

I'm an E.O.A. The horns have been sawn off. Helps improve our image if we don't show that we have horns, y'know? As to whether I can sing... Yeah. I can sing decently enough. Just not in front of people by myself. A soloist I am not...

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-12 04:32:54 +0000 UTC]

Excellent point, I suppose it does go a long way to not advertise your evilness... mmm, clever ^.^
HA! I knew it! Hey, I'm not a soloist either, despite years and years of choir experience I'm more of a back-up, or not-sing-at-all kind of guy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-13 03:32:51 +0000 UTC]

Certainly helps gain the citizenry's trust.

Choir is fun. You don't really have to worry about holding your breath for long periods of time as long as you don't breathe when everybody else does. lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-13 03:37:00 +0000 UTC]

I imagine it does.
That's true, I was almost always one of maybe 3-5 guys in the entire choir though, so I always had to hold my own I could hold notes for quite a long time regardless... ah, I've gone all sorts of rusty since then though, so oh well

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-13 03:54:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's harder to hide things like horns from the citizens nowadays because of the paparazzi, but we manage. Have to get really creative sometimes, like wear big black helmets that make your voice sound like Mufasa and make funny breathing sound, but people end up thinking it's cool.

One of the things I hate about having a pretty wide range is that there's usually too many sopranos in our little choir, so I get to take alto with two other women... Don't get me wrong, I like alto, but dangit, I've been singing alto since I was ten! I want to sing in the higher octaves at some point!

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-13 04:02:28 +0000 UTC]

"Mufasa!"

"MuFASA!"

"MUFASA!!!!!"

Hahahahahahahahaha! XD Sorry Ahem~!
Ahhhhhhh, you know, there was always an overabundance of altos in the choirs I was in... but they were notably unenthusiastic, the sopranos were always a lot more... awake, not to mention quite lovely sounding Hahaha, I've got a limited range, which I hate, but all my directors, *ALL*, tried to make me sing like a tenor when I had a range much closer to a bass Falsetto-squeaky goodness!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-13 04:09:11 +0000 UTC]

MUFASAMUFASAMUFASA! *manic hyena laughter in the background* >.> Stupid brothers... I should keep them locked up more often...

Really? I've never been in a choir where there were more altos than sopranos... Woooow...

My younger brother tried tenor for a while... I told him he really needed to move over to the bass section. And, whaddya know, he started sounding better. Neither Justin Timberlake nor Josh Groban will he be. Fortunately, we did have one of our old directors for that particular program, else she'd have picked him out and made him sing until he got the right note...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-13 04:13:41 +0000 UTC]

Hahahahahahahahahaha! XD Ah... wonderful ;D

Yeah, the choir around here was pretty weird... half the girls in them weren't at all interested or enthusiastic. At least the guys of the school were honest about it- they didn't like choir so they didn't join XD By my senior year, I was one of *three* men in the choir Yeehaw. There were more altos, but they lacked skill, enthusiasm... and pretty much a good singing voice :/ They were just.... there. Creepy.

Aaaaah, it sucked so much having to sing right at the absolute edge of my range all the time Even when we got another decent director, a guy even, he STILL made me sing tenor! BASTARD! >.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-14 05:06:54 +0000 UTC]

Wow... Most of the girls around here won't sing unless it's country music... At which point I beg them not to sing anyway...

And still they made you sing tenor??? Dang... They must've thought you sounded pretty good in that range, despite what your throat was telling you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-14 06:10:24 +0000 UTC]

Heh, considering how many people my school had and how many people ended up in the choir, I'd say that most girls didn't want to sing either... but the girls that did were wonderfully cute about it, they all seemed (the good ones) seemed to share a love for theater and musicals, etc.

Yep-yep... I could hold my own, sometimes, but I was never the strongest singer in the choir, certainly not the men's sections either... that honor lay with Chris Who was a natural tenor. I was never that good alone or leading, but I could support him or my section excellently... had a talent for blending. But yeah, my throat didn't like it and it didn't make me feel any better about my abilities, trying to scrape the edges of my range like I was a girl or a really, really young boy XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-15 18:05:01 +0000 UTC]

Ain't that the way it goes, though? Shame, really... Singing used to be considered something you had to be able to do at least decently. That or play an instrument... Then again, that was back during the Middle Ages, so....

Meh, we can't all be soloists. A choir would never sound very good if there weren't people who could blend.

I did something yesterday that I've never done before: I refused to sing the alto harmony on a song. And the director person kept hinting that my mom could take the soprano part and I could take the alto (since I always sing alto...), and I looked at my mom and said, "I'd like to sing the soprano." Yay for me!

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-15 18:45:20 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, yes, it is... I'm sorry to say that most of the girls (and guys) in my school were typically shallow and immature; the guys were afraid of being in choir 'cause it wasn't very masculine, I guess and the girls simply couldn't be bothered doing something so unpopular. The ladies and gentlemen of the arts at our school, dance, choir, band, orchestra, they were the special ones, the different ones.

Yes, we've come a long way.... *down*hill

Very true, but since I was only one of three guys in the end, being able to confidently hold my own would have helped
Oh wow, ooooooh, you asserted yourself, very nice Not to mention sexy, hehehe go you!

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-18 02:24:23 +0000 UTC]

Duuuude... If I had my choice, I'd listen to an male choir over a regular choir any day... And girls... Well, blah to girls who can sing, but don't choose to. For the folks who are tone deaf, that's a different story, and no choir would be the same without an audience.

lol.

Hmm... I'm a bit torn myself, I've heard some awesome performances by male-choirs, but I love the sounds of a female choir!

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-18 04:57:18 +0000 UTC]

lol. I like to hear the bass sections when they get to cut loose and go really low. Sopranos to me are just too diva, usually. Going high is nothing for them. The lower ranges seem to be a little less edgy to me. (I guess personality-wise I don't really fit with the soprano section. lol.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-18 05:33:28 +0000 UTC]

Hahahaha, interesting perspectives... basses going super-low are pretty cool, I must say I wish I could go lower, personally

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-18 05:42:42 +0000 UTC]

I wish I could actually hit the tenor-range C and be done with it. I can go to the D, but can't get a step lower! Drives me nuts, sometimes. But I can also go up to Soprano-range G, so I guess it's alright.

So you're baritone, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-18 05:48:11 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh~ Hardcore choir-girl! Baritone? Eh, I doubt it... I'd say bass to be safe. But even then.... gah! Damn ranges!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-18 14:50:25 +0000 UTC]

Nah. Just that our tenor section is so weak that the alto sometimes helps out during the practices. (Usually, very few of our guys can read music, so they have trouble hearing their lines and all.)

lol. Slightly above bass range, and yet slightly below tenor, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-18 18:00:26 +0000 UTC]

I never was good at reading music, but I could get along okay. I don't know why our directors never focused much on teaching us how to read music... Eh... I guess? It's been too long ^.^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-19 00:32:57 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-19 00:34:16 +0000 UTC]

Hehehe, I was never that sharp with music... educational lessons on stuff like that, the practical stuff, would have made me a lot more confidant... as it was, most of the people couldn't read music at all, so we had to learn the music by ear anyways.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DogmaticKerr [2007-10-19 03:32:21 +0000 UTC]

Which isn't too bad, if you can hear your part. Otherwise, it's a nightmare...

DogmaticKerr In reply to euclidstriangle [2007-10-19 04:12:23 +0000 UTC]

I never had a problem learning by ear, that's a cinch And thankfully, the bass section (or rather tiny men's section) was kept off to the front right of the risers and the girls all to the left-ish, so we could hear it all just fine. Poor guy next to me though, Kevin, was new... not very good at singing, period, much less matching tone/pitch. The director would walk by us and get a funny look on his face, ask us to sing again, and he'd stand right in front of us with an ear facing us, listening He singled out problems that way, hehehe, felt sorry for the one's that got singled out.
