Description
Done. I'm not going to mess with it further. Am I happy with it? No, not really. Am I willing to completely redo the picture to fix the composition errors? No. Therefore, I will leave it as is.Really just started off as a "Oh, why not stick these two sketches together" that turned into something bigger. The environment is sparse, but I wanted the attention on the guys, anyway.
Feel free to let me know what you guys think. Any and all advice will be tucked away for future reference.

HOT DAMN EUCLID. This is awesome. I especially love the backdrop and the textures in the ground... you're a texture queen. And the colors, of course, are amazing.
Korra rocked. I'm excited for whatever next season is gonna be. This Christmas break, I've been re-watching ATLA as well.. love it. You should draw Zuko if you have any free time.

Wonderful rendering---i shouldn't be impressed with anything you do anymore; it's always so fantastic i could die, but this is really wonderful. And i'm proud of you for saying, "to heck with it," and posting it even if it isn't perfect. i like not perfect. it's just...well, it's perfect

Well, I posted this over on conceptart.org in hopes of getting some more detailed feedback. All I got was (paraphrasing only slightly), "It sucks. Go learn composition." No links, no particular things to pay attention to, no suggestions on how to improve what was already there, nada. Which was not helpful at all. (Mind, I do give -and receive- critique over on Gaia, so I'm not being utterly thin-skinned about it... It's... Well, getting that kind of feedback made this piece no fun to work on anymore. I've moved on and decided to see what I could take what was already here and apply what I learned from it to future pieces.)
Do you know what about the composition was off (since that was their biggest complaint)? I'm not really seeing it. The flow (apart from that top right corner, which is terribly bare) seems fine to me, but I think I'm too close to the pic still.

I see no compositional errors; there is a nice downward flow from the top left hand corner down to the right hand one. The anatomy of the boys is incredible, and I can see the energy and movement so clearly. Your rendering is, as always, lovely-I'm especially drawn to the lighting on Mako's foot and calf, the source of which is the fire he is bending. Brava!
