Picture for Allychan's contest on Gaia.Whew! It's been a while since I last painted... I think it shows.
Anywho, I decided to play around with my paints for this pic. Figured it would be awfully appropriate to paint a mermaid with watercolors. Still not sure if I like it... I still can't paint background to save my life... I like how her tail came out, though. 
The paper was not meant to be painted on, though. lol.Download for the full view.

Straightened out the paper and rescanned. Now it's much better.

Yeah, the tail is great, but it didn't just come out great, it IS great! you gave her a real fish-type tail, as opposed to the kind that just looks like a really really REALLY tight skirt that ends in a tail fin (that is often horizontal rather than vertical....SHE'S PART FISH, NOT PART WHALE DAMMIT!!)
the colours are very peaceful, and, yeah, paint hates me too...

*playing devil's advocate* But... since it's a mermaid, and she's part human, wouldn't she be mammalian and thus be a bit more similar to the whale?? Then again, the whole scale thing wouldn't fit if it were so... Ahhh, the conundrums of mythical creatures.
You should have seen this when I was working on it. It looked like it was going to turn out really crappy. The paper was turning these ugly dark colors, especially on her face. I literally heaved a sigh of relief when I saw it the next morning.

Oh tell me about it! after using prismas, I get alot of greif as I wait for them to dry. I think what the problem is is that as the paper is slightly translucent from being wet from the ink/paint/whatever, whatever surface you're drawing on shows through.
ummm, i've often thought of the whole human part being mamalian, and so they should have whale tails thing...but I think the scales out weigh the mamal factor....at least in my head ^^

this is really cool. i love how you've shown what media you used; the patches of color are really attractive to me (for some reason, even though when i've attempted to paint, i always try to get rid of junk like that, OCD or something).

lol. I did this really quickly, so I really wasn't sure how it would turn out... Plus there were dark spots where the paper was getting too wet... You can't tell now, though. Thank goodness! lol.
