Description

Mass Effect Berlin class cruisers in Cerberus colors. From the graphic novel "Invasion" we know, that Cerberus posess at least three of these ships.

Class Background:

In 2153 the Systems Alliance launched the Berlin class, a second generation cruiser named after the capital of Germany. While the first spaceships of Earth were relatively clunky and ungraceful, the Berlin class represents an enormous improvement in the fleet-wide upgrades after the discovery of the Prothean ruins on Mars in 2148. Learned from the advanced Prothean knowledge about Mass Effect fields and Element Zero, the Berlin was the first military capital Starship with a hullsize spinal Mass Accelerator Cannon and faster than lightspeed engines.

The Berlin is a 650 meter long warship and holds a crew of around 320 + 50 Marines. The two shuttlebays holds also up to 12 Fighter or Shuttles. Additional vehicles such as tanks and hovercrafts can be stored in the cargo holds. Together with the Einstein class class Carriers, the first Berlins were used to ship colonization materials trough the Mass Relays after etablish the early colonies.

The Berlin class completed her first combat experience in the First Contact War against the Turians in 2157.

Before he gets his command of the SSV Normandy, war hero Captain David Anderson commanded the Berlin class cruiser SSV Tokyo.

In 2185, after over 30 Years in active service, most of the Berlin class were decommissioned and replaced by the more modern York class cruiser. But some newer constructed Berlins were refited and act now as light Cruisers in the Alliance fleet.

It is known, that the pro-human organization Cerberus is in the possession of Berlin class cruiser too. In 2186, at least three of them are part of the battle at Omega against a fleet of Adjutant creatures which escaped the secret facility beyond the Omega-4 relay.
