Description
The 442 meters long Nebula class starship is one of the ultimate multi-mission vessels in Starfleet during the second half of the 24th century. Covert, scientific, tactical, the Nebula class could adapt to almost any task given to it.The Nebula class is unique in that it has a very large interchangeable equipment module located at the rear of the ship. The βpodβ as it is sometimes called, can be replaced with another - sometimes within a few days - when performed at a starbase.
Starfleet created 8 different pods and modules. The two most used ones are the Sensor Pod and the Weapons pod. More rarely used were the Hospital-, Tactical-, Colony-, Carrier-, Skid- and Warp Nacelle- Pods.
The Nebula class is the ultimate workhorse for scientific and exploration mission which can operate independently from any Starbase for a long time. Smaller science ships like the Oberth class could record research data, but due to the lack of laboratories, these had to be evaluated on an outpost or starbase. The Nebula class could do this directly at the site of action.

It probably had the same function. A giant sensor pod.

I'd be curious to learn more about the Skid and Warp Nacelle pods!

The Skid Module can be used to tow a smaller ship at high warp for extended distances. The pod consists of two elongated pylons, which are then connected to another ship with reinforced bolts. By not using tractor beams, the Nebula-class ship is able to divert more power to the structural integrity field, and thus travel at a higher velocity for a longer period of time.
The Warp nacelle pod features two nacelles, each approximately one-third scale, positioned directly above the main nacelles. While not giving the ship a higher warp speed, it does allow the ship to maintain high warp for a longer period of time and a more powerful shield output.
We saw a ship with the Warp nacelle pod in the Wolf 359 graveyard scene as one of the wreckages and also as model ship in Captain Siskos Ready Room in DS9.

Nebula has always been one of my favorites.
Really wish we could get a show focused on such a ship and her crew.
Beautiful work here with the lighting especially.

I liked the Nebula eventhough the configuration was kind of weird with the Galaxy class saucer

Most of Star Treks background ships were kitbashes. But i like the Nebula class.

This was always one of my favorite ships of the era. I always liked the multi-role modular ships.
