Description
The 442 meters long Nebula class starship is one of the ultimate multi-mission vessels in Starfleet during the second half of the 24th century. Covert, scientific, tactical, the Nebula class could adapt to almost any task given to it.
The Nebula class is unique in that it has a very large interchangeable equipment module located at the rear of the ship. The ‘pod’ as it is sometimes called, can be replaced with another - sometimes within a few days - when performed at a starbase.
Starfleet created 8 different pods and modules. The two most used ones are the Sensor Pod and the Weapons pod. More rarely used were the Hospital-, Tactical-, Colony-, Carrier-, Skid- and Warp Nacelle- Pods.
The Nebula class is the ultimate workhorse for scientific and exploration mission which can operate independently from any Starbase for a long time. Smaller science ships like the Oberth class could record research data, but due to the lack of laboratories, these had to be evaluated on an outpost or starbase. The Nebula class could do this directly at the site of action.
