Description
Page ae-3 of a book of etchings I'm making, with the comparison of earthly life to that from the alternate earth, AE-467d2, in order to illustrate an argument taking place within its pages between a skeptic of life on other worlds and a supporter of the theory that says we can't be alone in the universe(s). Hope the rest of the book is this cool *happywithprint*. The animal plate is distressed etching and a ton of drypoint, while the text plate is distressed and intentional-incorrectly applied photoetching....oh yeah, so anyway, this is two 5x7 zinc plates with one being sepia, and the other black ink. This is my proof, I wonder if it'll look nicer on Arches or Reeves bfk.

The wicked worn look, as it's known. ; ) I adore it, myself. The whole "field notes" aesthetic. Of course, I'm a sucker for scientific naturalist type imagery, too. *shrug* Thank you!
Glad you like it.

Ahaha, I love it!
I love the distressed look, with all of the splaters and gruff chuncky lines! Ahh, it's to die for<3
Congrats for the DD too, you deserve it!

This is amazing. I love all of the different textures and lines. I can't really read the text, which makes the whole picture kind of tie so well. Great job.

The text is tied to it, but not necessary. I like ambiguity, myself. ; )

Thank ya, man! It's a fine thing to come upon a hundred and more comments that just keep coming. I always wish more people would see the rest of a DD's gallery, though. It seems the trend to only see the DD itself. Odd, huh?

Shade2005 In reply to evanjensen [2007-01-24 19:21:12 +0000 UTC]
Well it is a great piece.. it deserves all those comments *nods*And its cool that you're actually taking the time to answer them all.. most people don't seem to do that.
It is odd... and I have no real idea why that happens.. maybe people need to be expressly told to do so? Maybe they're lazy? If it makes you feel better though this was like.. the 5th deviation of yours I saw... Yay for the random deviation button *thumbs up*

Damn... wonder why it had a field day with my work. *laughs* But that's nothing special. I always hate commenting and getting ignored if I had more to say than "nice work", yanno? Give the effort, and it's nice to be noted.
Glad you dug the work, and anything else you didn't like, well... that's what crits are all about. ; ) Thanks for the new favorite, too.

Haha.. no I'm horrible at critique. I like this too much anyway. But yeah... its my pleasure *more thumbs up*

That looks really amazing. Even sinister in a way. I will have to mess with that lateron aswell.

evanjensen In reply to MartinSilvertant [2007-01-23 04:13:32 +0000 UTC]
Sinister is a glorious bent to take... I was aiming more for the dimness inherent in worn, old things more than the evil. : )

MartinSilvertant In reply to evanjensen [2007-01-23 13:28:11 +0000 UTC]
You succeeded in that, but it also has a sinister touch due to the "filth" on the paper in combination with the rather scary looking fish.

I love the rawness of it, the contrast, the movement, the writing as it's own compositional element. Very well done. It reminds me as well of Da Vinci's sketches, yours are a little darker in general but retain the same feel.
