It just may be that my mind is on the AM frequency, but I think Silver looks good in a shirt manly... thing. Yeah, I don't know what I'm talking about either.

But really, it's because of the way the world of the Arabian Nights works. Everything that happens in becomes part of a new chapter, a new Night. Last time Sonic appeared in the book, he was written in as "The Legendary Hedgehog", the main hero of the story "Sonic and the Secret Rings", and as such he is very much alive. So when he returns in this new story, he must assume the role he played before, as nothing has happened in the book that would make him a ghost. So the story supplies a life and body for him, as long as he stays in the world of the book. Or kills himself in the book, like he did.
It's not the best explanation ever, but it works if you don't think about it too much.
