Issue 5, Page 5.Those of you who guessed Knuckles/Sinbad get a gold ring.
You all thought Sonic was going to go bonkers, didn't you? Well, you thought wrong. The thing is, whenever he can help it, Sonic NEVER SHOWS HIS REAL EMOTIONS WHEN OTHERS ARE AROUND. At least when he's feeling sad or scared. If you don't believe me, I'd say how he acts in the games is enough proof. He never seems scared, but even the bravest folk get nervous when confronted by 50-foot-tall robots. He just covers it all up with false bravado.

Yeah, Knuckles as Sinbad is from the game Sonic and the Secret Rings-- this whole arc is based on that game's lore.

What irritates me in the games nowadays is that Sonic seems to be somewhat heartless because he has only one emotion and that's happy-go-lucky. At least in the past games he showed emotion. I would like to see a moment in a latest game where you see that he does hide behind bravado but only because he doesn't want others to see him scared or worried because he knows he has to be the leader.

WAIT! In the Sonic Adventure games, he shows all manners of emotions. Then starting with Sonic Heroes, his personality became 1 dimensional.

That's largely debatable. The only emotion he usually acts on is anger.

Well, yeah usually, but there are exceptions, like in SA2, when Sonic found out that Prison Island's going to blow up, he's immediately worried about Amy and Tails, and runs blindly towards them.

All right, watched the whole series-- awesome stuff! Sorry I missed it if you sent a link before, entirely my bad.
I agree with Roger and his friend's analysis of Sonic character (and the rest of the cast-- I'd never quite thought about it that way!). The thing is, when I started writing GOTF I made the (sometimes regrettable) decision to try to incorporate as much of the game canon as I could... and if I don't bring up something, it should at least be compatible (so far the only thing I've completely tossed out is "Shadow the Hedgehog"). And then I have to try to make it GOOD (from my perspective). That's why I said GOTF Sonic is out of touch with his emotions-- it's the only explanation (barring him being a sociopath)for Sonic's behavior in many games. So I'm trying to extend this trait into a character flaw that will get him in trouble, much like how STC Sonic is snarky to the point of cruelty. From a story perspective, I'm just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.
I hope that makes a little more sense than what I was saying before. Thanks again for sending me those videos-- I'm going to try to implement some of their ideas in my storytelling!

I was a little confused by the speech bubbles in the last panel. I wanted to read Sonic's, then Knuckles (er, Sinbad), then Ali Baba's, then Amy's, etc. But I figured it out.
