Celestia's wing sprung up over her face. She turned away, defiant of what her mirror said.That's not me. That can't be me. . .
Whimpers protruded from her lips as she lowered her wing back down. She slowly leaned in closer.
The mirror clattered to the ground before her.
She could no longer see.
She didn't desire to see.
No real back-story to go with this piece. However, if someone were to write a fanfic based around this concept, I'd most certainly read it

Β Β Β She had long since sent her guards away. She knew what was to be expected if anyone, even her most devoted of guards saw what she was slowly becoming each and every night. It had only been days after the failed invasion of Canterlot during her niece's wedding, but the reproductions of that day had taken its effect without her even knowing about it; until now. Each night when she set the sun to rest and her sister's reign began over the star-lit night, she could see it in her face as her form gradually began to become deformed and loathsome. Her elegant and regal appearance took on the appearances each night of someone who resembled a being of sheer nightmares. Though a gradual change over the last few days which she originally thought of nothing more than fatigue from a hard day of work ruling over the harmonious kingdom, became something she could no longer deny. In the night, the features seemed to amplify; gradually taking on more grotesque features that shadowed over her figure and her face.
Β Β Β She held the mirror as she looked at herself this evening, it was worse than ever. Her only consolation was that when the sunlight returned, the effects seemed to wear off and her normal facade was restored. But she could no longer keep hiding it. She had researched it herself after the attack had taken place. Her time in the cocoon had had a lasting effect on her metabolism as the queen's dark energy managed to leave it's corruption inside of her, like a cancer that had gone unchecked for too long. Creatures who had been weakened from confrontation by the changelings were the most vulnerable and with her defeat at the hooves of the queen, Celestia was at her most vulnerable while she was imprisoned in the cocoon. Her magic that was left over her was now taking over. And to make matters worse, the effects were irreversible. Without a single changeling left over to study their magic was only that which was recorded in the ancient archives, however little was known beyond that. Though even with the possibility of finding a changeling to study or even attempt to ascertain the information needed to save her, she knew her time was running out. She cringed as she looked at herself. She felt herself quivering in terror, sadness and disgust. Covering herself with her wing after what felt like an eternity, she slowly lowered her wing again to look at the thing in front of her.
