Well, this is a year old now, but I wanna say something! ^-^;
I don't think that he killed her. She was possessed, let's say by a demon. And the two kids played hide and seek. So the possessed girl searched for the boy. When she found him, the demon left her body and got into the boy, possessing him and leaving the powerless body of the girl. That's how she died. And she got that look of fear, because she knew she would die.
