Sister Maria RosaTorg Eternity Deluxe Character Sheet
Copic marker and colored pencil on paper
© 2018 Fantastic Gallery
This was done for the cover of my first self-published Torg Eternity product, the Deluxe Character Sheet, available through the Infiniverse Exchange on DriveThruRPG! It features my own Torg Eternity character, a renegade cybernun from the Cyberpapacy. I was originally going to use one of Torg Eternity's signature characters in a scene illustration, but I couldn't land on an idea that wasn't super time-consuming, so I ended up just snapping a photo of my filled out character sheets, which, of course, featured this character. So for the sake of visual consistency, I did a quick illustration of her and superimposed it over the photo. This also allowed me to include scans of the character sheet in the product download as a sample. You can purchase the character sheet here: www.drivethrurpg.com/product/2…

That would more fall under the preview of the cyberknights, which are totally a thing in this setting, but yeah, you're not far off. In Torg, the Cyberpapacy is a reality where a corrupt, totalitarian mockery of the Catholic Church has ruled the world since the 1300's when the French pope triumphed over the Roman one during the Western Schism (instead of the other way around as in real life). Now the Cyberpope preaches that God is on the Internet (the "GodNet") and that cyberware is a Holy Sacrament. My character was a Spanish nun who was transformed to this reality and literally reprogrammed to become an assassin for the Cyberpapacy, until the chip controlling her mind malfunctioned and she reverted back to her original personality (mostly) and joined the "resistance." If I were to convert her to D&D stats, she'd probably be a fighter/cleric, with more emphasis on the fighter. Paladin is a bit too knightly for this character.

If there wasn't a more accurate comparison in Torg (the cyberknight), I'd say you were pretty much on the money. And conceptually, the difference between a fighter/cleric and a paladin is minimal.

I know in Shadowrun they're always looking for nungun art that's actually combat appropriate. So very cool!

The Cyberpapacy is similar to Shadowrun in that both incorporate some level of magic into a cyberpunk genre... the big difference is that Cyberpapacy replaces corrupt, runaway capitalism with corrupt, runaway religion.

your work is a little against my religion, but I must confess that you have done very well.

My work in general? I draw a lot of stuff that covers a lot of topics, so that’s sort of a weird thing to say. I certainly don’t mean to offend anyone.

TORG is all about other realities invading our own, transforming parts of the world into “someplace else.” This character is from the cyber-religious realm that’s invaded western Europe.

TORG is awesome. You can pretty much play anything. In the original game, I once played a sentient pile of mud. I highly recommend the game.

Well done, she looks awesome! Wow, I haven't thought about TORG in decades. I had a ninja who ran-in with the Cyberpapacy at one point. You're right, that was good times.

There’s a new edition out from Ulisses Spiel called TORG Eternity. This was done for an open license product for that game, although I do have art in the official core rule book. TORG is my favorite RPG ever and the new version is really quite good.

If you're unfamiliar with TORG, the idea is that several different dimensions have invaded the Earth, turning parts of it into their reality. Each invading reality is a different genre. This character is from the Cyberpapacy, an alternate reality that's invaded over France and Spain, where a sinister, twisted version of the Catholic church rules a totalitarian, dystopian future. They teach that God lives on a virtual computer network (the GodNet) and that cyberware is salvation. It's basically good old-fashioned cyberpunk, but with runaway religion instead of runaway mega-capitalism. It's good times.

I like cyberpunk. It's a fun genre even if it can be really dark and oppressive. I think that's why I'm drawn to the Cyberpapacy in Torg. It's cyberpunk, but with a single "evil empire" enemy to fight against. I feel like I can actually win, which is fun.
