Description
I GOT MY SCANNER BACK WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!For further details read the journal I've submitted, but basically I am back in action.
This is one of the better sketches I did over the Christmas holidays. My dad gave me a book while I was in China, about the most beautiful locations in China. Among them was a massive waterfall - I forget its name but it's absolutely spectacular - and I remembered this picture I once saw, of a floating Chinese castle. So I thought, "Goddammit that's cool." And basically I drew it out and here it is.
Architecture of Shrine is based on Chinese shrines, although there seem to be a few Japanese elements involved as well. I decided that since I've got Photoshop now, I might as well start learning to use it, so there's a few splashes of colour. I turned the opaqueness of the colours down to very low though, to give it an effect similar to watercolour drawings (I think. It looks watery.)
The title, Piaoyuan (Simplified Chinese: 漂园 ), literally means 'floating garden/court' in Chinese.
Lineart drawn traditionally with HB 0.7mm pacer, colour added in PS CS2

Amazing work, I just kind of gaped at it for a few seconds.
How was China? Or do you cover that in the journal?

China was good. Good food, met lots of people, shopped heaps, and managed to improve artwork a bit.

Wow, this is absolutely beautiful. Nice steam effects and I love hoe the floating castle looks like it was uprooted from the earth

Technically the shrine IS uprooted from the earth. The way you're meant to reach the shrine is also very interesting; the monks who reside in the shrine magically raise chunks of earth from down below, creating a path as the visitor crosses. This also serves as a handy defence mechanism. There are also several dozen chunks of earth floating around the shrine, each with a tree or a smaller shrine on it, hence the name Floating Gardens, but I just couldn't be stuffed drawing them in.

In my defence, I did add splotches of green. However, they looked extremely out of place, so I turned the colour opacity down to just 5%.
