Description Aurum: Seer of the Stars

I've always been fascinated by astronomical mythology and things like the Greek/Roman pantheons and other personifications of celestial bodies. I don't remember how, but I got it into my head back in November some time to do my own version with my Crossworld characters. And then the brain went "Hey, why not make a series?" Of course, I forgot to take into account my ADD attention span, so two of the three pictures sat around for over a month waiting for me to finish the third piece. And then, in the length of about one afternoon, I finally got it done! Yeah, I tend to be silly like that.

And here's the real toughie of the three! Coming up with colors of the other two was a snap, but how in the world do you choose a couple colors for the stars?! I muddled around for a while, using some blacks and greens, but that just made him look like Harry Potter. Finally I decided to go with a couple different gradients of green, blue, and purple, as well as other colors tied in. I've always seen the stars as fairly cool. The nebula in the cloak was a suggestion from some classmates, and I thank them for the idea, it helps the piece a lot ^_^ I didn't really draw so much on mythology for Aurum, instead using more of what I knew of Western magic and fantasy. The stars are distant and mysterious, yet kinda playful, so Aurum was the perfect choice, and unlike the other two he's facing away from us. I have no idea what he's doing with that sparkly smoke, but it looks like he's having fun doing it! And he got no big orb of celestial might, because his domain is over a myriad of smaller bodies, and rather than having one item with a bunch of dots or some such, I gave him three smaller orbs rotating around with the same pattern on each one.

I'm gonna bite anyone that says he looks like Harry Potter :E

Literally my favorite of all your drawings, I've used this picture to describe one of my Roleplaying characters over a few years. Is there any way I could perhaps hire you for a commission of an alteration of this character in different poses?

So, I could have sworn that I commented earlier, but I don't see my comment!

I absolutely love this piece and this series! I love all your work, actually. It inspires me and I always wait anxiously for your next post! This piece in particular caught my eye, mostly because I'm astounded that this pic is the male version of my OC and alter ego! I'd love to know more about him and all your characters, because you've put so much thought and detail into your pictures of them! Do you write about them?

Augh I feel so bad, I meant to respond to this wonderful comment ages ago! I am extremely sorry for the delay!! It's been a long time since I did anything major with these characters, but Aurum is a part of my Crossworld setting/stories that I wrote with my friends during our college years. I've got a tiny blurb about him in this piece here: [link] as well as he's featured in this piece: [link] You can find more general Crossworld art in this gallery: [link] I do hope to get back to the setting and continue developing it someday, it's just a matter of time and inspiration and the stars' alignment.

Heh. As you may have noticed I went on a Fave-rampage. But this one is my favorite of the favorites. Night Elf - Stars and Nature comes pretty close, and I really like Holding Out For A Hero and Tervan - A Feline Dispositon for different reasons too, but this is the best, methinks.

Awesome artwork, you've got. Sensational.

I think he's my favorite of the three. There's something about him that's there that neither the moon nor the sun of the trio have. I don't know what either, and it's bugging me. At any rate, he is SPECTACULAR!!

May I say he looks alot better than Harry Potter?

Masterful use of photoshop I might add. (Or what ever program you used.)

Bee-yoo-tiful scarf that he has there. I also like the background. In my humble opinion, his eyes and hair (and maybe even skin) need more work. They don't have the same depth that the background and scarf have.. but perhaps that is on purpose.

I want his scarf. Shawl. Thing.

D8 It's shiney.

Awesome colours for the... whole thing. 8D And how it all blends in the backround.

And yet this one is my favorite of the set, (not that I have a thing for males) because of the sheer amount of action and mystery you placed within. You did better than you know with the multitude of colors perhaps, or maybe you Did know, because stars (like our own misunderstood sun) contain quite a spectrum of light and color. They are even classified by the different colors that their elements show in those interesting little compositional bar charts, though that has little bearing on the way we see them.

Yet anyone who has seen a NASA telescope photo will tell you of the powerful color and shape composition of star-dust. For all our attachment to sun and moon it may be our very make up, created from the vast elements of Godly dust that give us the power to dream such dreams.

And while I know next to nothing save those glimpses of characters you have given us here, this fellow of them all caught my eye the most. If I could meet any of them, and talk with them about their lives, your depiction of Aurum here would beg me to choose him.

fav+

I always look forward to your feedback, it’s so well thought-out and meaningful, I’m really flattered you take the time on my pieces ^_^ I can see why you saw Gaius as Mars, it’s an easy connection and while not my aim, I’m glad you made it anyways ;3 And yes, I was very pleased with the way his blue eyes popped. I hold a deep love for the clear blue skies, so being able to evoke that color in my art pleases me to no end ;3 As for Nimdre, the yellow eyes are just her normal eye color, but somehow it worked out as a nice counter! Each of the characters in this series are original characters from a story world that’s in development, all I did was stick them in different costumes and give Gaius a ponytail. In our world, Drow normally have red eyes, but yellow and purple are seen as well, like blue and green for humans. And Aurum was the last piece I completed, so the time spent on him likely shows with the coloring, and I’m not surprised he’s a favorite. I’m quite happy with him myself!

Thank you again! I must say I find your feedback inspirational in ways, it spurs me on ^_^ You’re awesome!

I have to agree with Silvermadness about the wonderfulness of the shawl. Oh, and the sparklies, being sparklies, are automatically cool. Good stuff, Evion!

*drools at the bedazzling shawl* Holy moose! You outdit yourself on just the piece of clothing. To think you did these three pictures so swiftly. *envies much* Ah well, there are so pleasant to look at. He definltey looks like someone who'd be nerdy and star at stars....Not to say staring at stars automatically makes you nerdy.

He looks nothing like Master Potter, who has a scar, and an innocence about the world.

As always, you have done great work. Do I envy your talent, or your creations?
