Description
My character Rhea in our tabletop game has a condition of nanite-induced lycanthropy. At least once a month for several nights, Rhea goes through a painful transformation that turns her into an inky black wolf-predator-like being bent on hunting and eating. The idea was "a werewolf designed by someone who's only ever seen Alien and Pacific Rim."Related content

I like it. Of course now I keep thinking, "I'm a Swift Glaive who Rides the Lightning" whose partnered with a "Mystical Nano who Howls at the Moon"
So... Glaive, Nano, or Jack?

She's a Tough Glave Who Howls at the Moon. She's the meat shield of our little group, being the fairly large country girl mercenary.
And we do have a Nano That Rides the Lightning in our group, as well as a Jack Who Exists Between Phases (or however that phasing one was.) She's the one that's connected with Rhea and won't be attacked. It helps when the monster can't even touch you.

Very cool!
Nanite-induced lycanthropy, eh?... Trying to think of how that would work. It would involve them being attached to most external cells, and I'm not even sure where the fur would come from... hrm. Sorry, engineering-student rambles, I'm probably thinking about it too hard

Hehe, well the setting is in a sort of post-apocalyptic age after about 9 hyper-advanced civilizations have risen and fallen. Nanite machines permeate the very air, which is what the "wizards" of this settings harness to create "magic" effects. They simply are able to interface with the machinery infusing everything, but in limited ways.
Rhea's condition has a sort of virus-like condition to it with the nanites fusing on a one-to-one basis with every cell in her body. There's probably quantum physics involved too to draw mass from elsewhere to add to her form when she transforms.
Needless to say, the whole process is very painful.

Aah, that explains the mad-scientist-level of inefficient use of nanites

Yeah, when they're as plentiful as oxygen molecules, consolidation is less of an issue. XD

Indeed.
Side note, could someone could figure out how to control the nanites and turn her into whatever they wanted?

Nah, they're pretty hard-wired and considering they were from an automated system left by one of the previous civilizations, the coding or whatever is in them is far beyond anyone's ability to understand/decipher. It'd be like if we were fish trying to learn Mayan.

C'mon, we all know some day they're going to hack them and find out they were coded in HTML.
