Big the cat was actually a gift to a mentally slow employee that worked for Sega. He loved the color purple, cats, frogs and he loved fishing. They created Big as a gift for all his hard work. The fact that they made him isn't really offensive when you know the back story, but then again, they don't make it obvious of the gift they did for their special employee.

Yes indeed he was. You don't have to like the character, that's not what I'm saying, but the origin of Big the cat does have a rather large impact. So please, don't think I'm saying "oh you're a terrible person for hating on this character' no that's not what I'm saying. It's fine that you have characters that you dislike, but there is a reason that character exists.
