I live to see death, destruction, evil over the light. But the light cannot be extinguished. I live in a prison of my own demise. I am lost in time." - One of Alpha-01's 4 chants when in slumber within the ARK in Rebellion of Silver. All of these chants are references to many things in both gaming and many religions.

This is the big bad of the Extra story arc. The Alpha-01 (Otherwise known as No. 01, -A- pocalypse) in Rebellion of Silver is actually one of two individuals born from Ragna when the alien bombing that birthed the Mobians split his existence into two beings; a mysterious human knight donning a Black Beast hide bent on the permanent end to the Black Beast's cycle of revival, and a Murakumo Unit bent on the complete annihilation of all life by becoming the reincarnation of the Black Beast. The knight stopped the Murakumo unit long ago in the final years of the bombing at a cost; the Murakumo Unit was successfully sent to the past and left to sleep in a cocoon deep within the planet, possibly forever with no seithr able to reach the depths it sleeps in. The knight's human body was destroyed, but his willpower to resist death now allows the armor to continue to move on its own.

Eventually, during the construction of the Space Colony ARK, Alpha-01's cocoon was excavated - thankfully with no seithr to trigger its awakening given the time period - by Professor Gerald Robotnik and a team of scientists looking for a powerful source of energy to permanently keep the colony in orbit. Her cocoon was a flawless discovery by Professor Gerald, as the power in the cocoon - which he was unaware was an incarnation of the True Azure inside Alpha's regeneration core - allowed the colony to stay in orbit for over the ARK's orbit life span of 20 years (despite using a meteorite as the ARK's frame) when it was put in the Chaos Emerald battery for the Eclipse Cannon.

Many years passed, and eventually Professor Gerald began hearing voices in the ARK; voices none of the other scientists could hear, almost as if it were faint chanting on a very faint sound frequency. He had heard these many of these phrases before as a child, but 85% of Alpha's chants were unfamiliar to him. (such as the Mausoleum Suite chant)

Gerald had left a secret diary entry for Maria in case she were to survive her fatal injuries with a much more cryptic password than his commonly-used password for ARK-related projects about the voices, as he was certain the voices would eventually haunt her as well. And they did, as 2 months after the events of Rebellion of Silver's Weaving of Fates arc, Maria began hearing strange chants on the ARK coming from the Eclipse Cannon's Chaos Emerald battery room.

Desiring answers, Maria tried accessing this lost diary entry written by Professor Gerald Robotnik, but it was too advanced for her to decrypt. For assistance, she called upon Nu-13. (With Tails dead, and Eggman too busy helping Sally, Nicole and Sonic repair the damage caused by the events Terumi set in motion, Nu-13 was the only open person for the task) Nu-13 hacked into the diary with little to no effort, and the two discovered something disturbing. It turns out long before Maria's death, Gerald was slowly going insane from the chanting. He was able to pinpoint the origin of these chants to the Eclipse Cannon's Chaos Emerald battery room, but was unable to find the source. However, he realized that bringing the cocoon his scientists used as a battery to the ARK was a mistake. Something in that cocoon was sleeping, trying to drive him mad enough to open the cocoon, and stated that the cannon should never be fired for any reason despite his original purpose for its creation of destroying the Black Comet, as he had no idea what kind of energy was being used by the cannon. (scans of the cannon's energy source also revealed nothing)

Nu-13 and Maria rushed to the cannon to find the cannon itself ejecting from the ARK, almost as if something were controlling it. Nu-13 was able to figure out there was an extremely unstable amount of primordial seithr in the battery of the cannon. The cannon made impact, making the metal cover fall off, and revealing a highly elaborate cauldron. The cocoon opened, awakening Alpha-01. And as Nu-13 locates the Murakumo Unit, Nu senses that there is more on the line than just destroying a cauldron that injects a celestial body with seithr in order to rot it to destruction. And as the clash is soon to begin, she fears she'll be right to expect as such.

Alpha-01's fighting style is very reminiscent of the Black Beast's many phases mixed with an always active scythe mode of a single, giant Blood Scythe-like petal blade.
